Even though MMH will do practically nothing to address the issue of affordability. We are governed by idiots elected by morons.

The City of Victoria will allow townhomes, duplexes and 6-units on every lot in the city. This is a game changer for housing diversity, affordability, climate and vibrant communities!

More trees have to come down on the West Shore to help build these structures, though. Is there a CO2 capture off-set Victorians can pay?

How will this benefit the climate exactly?
The presumption is people will live closer to work or other places they currently travel greater distances to.

Everyone currently living in and commuting from Sooke each day will now move into a 500 square foot unit in Fairfield, (which will only cost them twice as much as their rural acreage). Since no parking will be available, they will be forced to give up their car, thus saving the planet from a cataclysmic demise in the next 6 months.
Meanwhile the population of India will increase by 100 million in the next 7 years.

How does this account for the thousands of people in the region of currently work from home?

I understand the theory. This is why I used live in the city. This can help preserve natural and rural landscapes by corralling the population into smaller spaces. Making a statement of fact that this will control the weather is preposterous. The presumption is people will live closer to work or other places they currently travel greater distances to.

Won't more people generate more CO2? Seems to me like less people is the best way to reduce emissions.
I note that the CoV climate report update will be presented next week at the COTW meeting. Any bets that despite a rapidly growing population we will be told that we are reducing CO2 emissions according to plan?

Tell that to India and China.

Tell that to India and China.
China is currently less of a worry, about expanding population. The expansion is happening in Africa. Which also happens to be the continent with the greatest outflow of migrants and refugees.
From 2005 to 2010 almost 9 million people moved to Europe. Elsewhere, 3.5 million moved out of Africa. In Asia, 618,000 left Bangladesh for India, 489,000 went from Indonesia to Malaysia, and 258,000 people left Kazakhstan for Russia. In the United States, more than 1.8 million arrived from Mexico.

As long as the population somewhere on the earth continues to grow unabatedly, then my use of a metal straw (et al) is moot.

Has anyone picked apart, say, a south Fairfield lot, and see what we can fit on it under these new rules?
Or should I?

Will Victoria's new 'missing middle' housing policy help renters?
https://www.cbc.ca/n...ategy-1.6729374
Proponents say it could help increase affordable housing; critics say it will not help renters
Now, a council headed by current Mayor Marianne Alto voted 6-3 to pass the initiative on Thursday.
Effective March 12, the initiative would replace single-family zoning and allow the construction of six-unit homes on mid-block lots and up to 12-unit townhomes on some corner lots without rezoning.

Has anyone picked apart, say, a south Fairfield lot, and see what we can fit on it under these new rules?
Or should I?
OK, I'll do 1315 Minto, currently for sale for $1,649.850. An oddly specific number.
The lot appears to be about 15.1m wide. And 36.7m deep. The City map says it's 555.65 sq. m. So that all make sense.
For a 6-plex, the FSR is allowed to be 1:1.
So let's start converting this all to imperial measurements.
The lot is about 5,979 sq. ft. Let's call it 6,000.
So the maximum floor space for the 6-plex can be 6,000 sq. ft. But this will fall as we figure out how many floors we can have here and deal with setbacks.
15.1m wide. And 36.7m deep. = 49.5 feet wide. 120.4 feet deep.
So I'm guessing this is actually a 50x120 lot, that sounds right.
So let me plunk down a building footprint, nothing is to scale here (except the lot property lines).

So we started with a 120 foot deep lot.
Less 52.8 feet for front and back setback.
So we get 67.2 feet deep building.
And we had a 50 foot wide lot less 4.9 feet on each side = 40.2 feet wide building.
Everybody following?
So the maximum footprint and maximum gross sq. foot of each floor is 40.2*67.2 = 2701 per floor
