Grok:
- In Spanish, está (with an accent) is the third-person singular form of the verb estar, meaning "he/she/it is" (temporary state, location, or condition).
- Example: La casa está aquí = "The house is here."
- If "estoya" is a phonetic or typing error for está ya, it could informally mean "it's already" or "he/she is already" in casual Spanish slang.
- Without the accent, esta means "this" (feminine demonstrative adjective/pronoun).
- Why this fits: Searches heavily point to Spanish grammar confusions between esta, está, and ésta. No exact match for "estoya," but it's the closest phonetic fit.
- Estoya is a rare surname of Spanish origin, possibly derived from estoy ("I am" in Spanish). It appears in genealogy records, with bearers primarily in the Philippines and Spain.
- Meaning: Likely a variant of estoy + a suffix, implying "I am [something]" or a locational name.
- Example: Historical figures like Juan Estoya (19th-century Spanish military).
- Not ESTA: This is often confused due to similarity, but ESTA stands for Electronic System for Travel Authorization, a U.S. visa waiver program for short-term travel. It's an acronym, not a word with a direct "meaning."
- No significant results in other languages (e.g., not a Swahili, Japanese, or indigenous term). If it's from a specific dialect, book, song, or brand, more context would help.

ChatGPT:
The Cheese IncidentDuring construction, the architect tried to say “It’s sturdy!” but had a mouthful of queso dip and accidentally said, “It’s… toya!”
Everyone applauded, thinking it was Italian for “luxury,” and the name stuck.

This tower looks great from along Quadra. It looks almost at max height.

Did y'all see that noise complaint about Estoya? Claims they were doing work as early as 4 in the morning.

The plain white panels are starting to become visible on the lower levels. Of all the major new buildings covered in plain white panels in the vicinity of Blanshard & Fisgard, I expect the plain white panels on this one to be among the plainest and whitest. (edit: or maybe not... see my next post below)
But otherwise I don't mind the presence of the building. It seems to fit in well enough, almost as if a building that height had always been there or was always supposed to be there. And in this specific case the plain white panels might actually work as a contrast to the abundance of brick on Quadra, namely the old churches, North Park Manor & the Sandpiper, and the Vefra building.

Just looking at the renderings now... there's a suggestion that the cladding for this one (on the tower levels, I mean, above the metal mesh stuff on the podium) will not be so plain and white after all? Crikey, if the white stuff I saw today was just a protective layer or some such thing then I might end up getting a very pleasant surprise.
If so, then I'll forever refer to it as the "Aryze surprise", and I'll vow to never be in a rush to criticize their work again.
If not, then I'll be bummed as per normal.

So if I understand it:
- metal mesh on the podium levels and the tower balconies,
- panels on the tower levels in white or possibly grey or possibly beige, and that may or may not have a bit of grain to them,
- a bit of brick on the ground level
I dunno, maybe it will be pretty good after all.
