you know?

Lot of money in the timer safes, different currencies, what people deposited that day, etc

Did they close the bank during the robbery? Likely more people tried to enter the bank during that time span? If they waited for a bit they only have to rob one bank instead of 10

I don't think most people are bringing (cash) money to the bank.

Via Adam Stirling's Twitter:

June 11, 2020 from Isaac Auchterlonie’s @instagram page.

Announcement of firearms prohibition. Note the handwriting added under “What are your options?”:

“4. Keep firearms & don’t surrender” “5. Tell Trudeau to go f__k himself”

Very few people who disagree with the Federal government's recent firearms regulations are ever going to act in the manner of the Auchterlonie brothers.

Note to the Times Colonist (and their questionable writing staff) ... triplets are triplets, and twins are twins ... they're two different things.

Two of the three siblings that comprise "triplets", are "two of the triplets" ... they're not suddenly "twins" because you don't have a clue how to deal with writing the third person comprising the triplets into your multiple poorly worded headlines.

If you really can't pull a story together, just do what Saanich PD do and reference "the two suspects" rather than try (and fail) with your poorly worded "grabber" headline.

Seems weird to me that they attacked police. They really hated trudeau, vaccine mandates, government control - ok.
But lots of the cops I know personally are against stricter gun controls, and were against vaccine mandates. Its a weird group to target imo. In fact, lots of cops, as individuals, are probably aligned with these kids - being into guns and hunting, leaning toward libertarianism, etc.

I understand there isn’t a lot of logic backing these imbeciles, but if they hated government so much, I wonder why they didn’t pick a different target… a more political one.

Did their social media feeds show any sympathy with the BLM movement? Probably not. These guys seem like they’d be on the other side of the ACAB proponents…

Weird case.

I doubt they were attacking the police as an institution. The GVERT officers were simply the first armed opponents they encountered.

Prominent Vancouver Island family collateral victims of Victoria bank robbery

Auchterlonie family issues statement regarding online harassment

July 4, 2022

Screenshot 2022-07-04 14.05.53.png
Vice-Admiral Bob Auchterlonie

"This past Saturday police identified the two deceased suspects in the recent bank robbery in Victoria. The two individuals are NOT related to the Auchterlonie family from Cumberland. We have never met them, and we have no connection to them beyond sharing a unique last name.

While this tragic event never was about us, it quickly spiralled, and our weekend was spent responding to media enquiries and attempting to respond to negative comments about us on social media. Because Bob holds a senior position in the Canadian Armed Forces, he became a target. The hurtful, harmful comments posted anonymously by strangers looking to come up with conspiracy theories about our family were despicable.

As noted this tragic event was never about us. It is instead about those impacted – the officers involved, the bank staff, the bank customers and all their families and loved ones, and yes, also the two young suspects and their loved ones. Our thoughts are with all of them.

This weekend also offered a reminder to those of us who post on social media to get the facts first and to resist engaging in speculation.

While our weekend was challenging, we know there are several families who have had a much more difficult weekend than we did, and we ask that you think of them.

Thank you to our friends for their support.

Susan Auchterlonie, Vice-Admiral Bob Auchterlonie, and our families"

Oh, please.

Hurtful and harmful?  Rubbish.

By all means issue the statement saying it's not connected to you, but spare me your tears.  It's not about you, and the spotlight has already well moved on.

Stick and stones can break your bones, but words will never hurt you.

A damning assessment of VV… :)

I can understand the family’s frustration. I certainly wouldn’t want an army of misguided keyboard warriors unleashed on my family.

You have to put it in perspective though.

Thousands and thousands of people likely saw his name connected to the robbers, but a tiny, tiny percentage of those said anything untoward about the military family.

If you can't put than in perspective, you need to understand social media better, or just avoid it.

Nothing that good ever came from the Internet. Other than VV

People on this very forum were making similar speculation without having all the facts. It's a shame that innocent people have to pay the price for the public's curiosity.

We were making reasonable speculation, yes.  Nobody here criticized the military family.

If police had been more forthcoming, we would have halted the speculation days earlier.

I'm afraid if you've got the same last name, and you happen to work for BMO in Victoria, people are going to inherently ask a lot of questions.

If you don't preempt those questions by making a very public statement, and making it very quickly after the fact ... you're going to have to put up with the public simply being the public and positing as to whether there is, or is not a relationship between the parties, simply because of these two very odd coincidences.

As always, there are choices to be made other than the ones the Admirals family initially made.

Nobody reading their attempt to chastise anybody asking questions is going to feel remotely bad about having asked questions ... which is why statements directed at chastising the inquisitive public in cases like this are a complete waste of time.

And of course, as always ... you can simply stay off an/or ignore social media sites altogether (or release a  detailed statement much quicker than a week after the incident)

Saanich, B.C. bank shooter was rejected by military, CAF says

CTV Vancouver Island - July 4, 2022

One of the twin brothers who was killed in a shootout with police outside a bank in Saanich, B.C., last week had applied to join the Canadian Armed Forces but was rejected, a military spokesperson confirmed Monday.

Mathew Auchterlonie had tried to join the Canadian Army but did not pass the aptitude test, the national defence spokesperson said.

The spokesperson declined to say when he applied.

The 22-year-old was killed Tuesday along with his twin brother, Isaac Auctherlonie, amid an exchange of gunfire outside a Bank of Montreal that also left six police officers injured.

The national defence spokesperson confirmed that Isaac completed a solider-for-a-day work-study program with the Canadian Armed Forces in 2018.

The spokesperson described the program as an "open house" that allows anyone over the age of 15 to participate in simulated military fitness testing and tour a military installation.

"Neither Isaac nor Mathew Auchterlonie have ever been part of the Canadian Armed Forces in any way," the spokesperson said.
