I’ve never seen something so depressing.

My god.

https://www.neom.com...regions/theline

“For too long, humanity has existed within dysfunctional and polluted cities that ignore nature.”

“Now, a revolution in civilization is taking place. Imagine a traditional city, and consolidating its footprint, designing to protect and enhance nature.”

Now you all know why real estate is so expensive here.

Now, dystopia aside, it’s kinda funny how they’re talking about “nature” in the middle of a barren desert landscape.

Know it all.

Imagine your entire city crashing and there is nowhere to escape to?

I think the line is a reasonable experiment.

Reasonable I can’t agree to. Experiment is spot on.

Remember, you will own nothing, and be happy. With your “nature” in a literal scorched earth desert. Don’t believe me? Check out Neom for yourself. Imagine that beautiful view:

Imagine not being able to leave your city because the AI forbids it. Or the AI forgets to let you back in.

It’s already madness in that region. I got a sneak peak inside the Al Hamra Tower. Only the bottom few floors are occupied. The rest of the floors are layered in trash and graffiti.
Kuwait needs to burn oil for its water even. Desalination is required for their very life source. There is very little connection to nature there. Their roads are pristine but their beaches are thick with garbage. I will probably never return to this area…. Not unless A LOT of money is involved and it’s delivered up front.

At its core, this Line experiment seems to just be a 170km long 'skyscraper' lying on its side, with mirrored sides.

It’s more agenda 2030 but in their own mad way….
“ a blueprint for how people and planet can co-exist in harmony.”
“ A cornerstone of Saudi Vision 2030 and an economic engine for the Kingdom, it will drive diversification”
“ The majority of NEOM land will be preserved to enhance livability for residents and environmental protection. The design of THE LINE provides a seamless way of living in harmony with nature. During development, strict environmental controls are in place to preserve NEOM’s natural environment and rich heritage.

No construction activity is possible unless it has met stringent international sustainability criteria, which have been built around the standards expected for a Circular Carbon Economy. While caring for the environment is a guiding principle, the plan allows NEOM to accomplish this without compromising NEOM’s ability to attract business and entrepreneurs to the region.”

Will just need to deforest all of BC within a decade to do it. But it’s carbon neutral!

I don't necessarily think its a bad idea, though the location seems to be stupid stupid stupid. Why build this where there is little fresh water, and extreme temperatures year round?

Probably the same type of things they eat now. It’ll be trucked in underground.

There is a planned layer of underground services, including freight handling systems.

No special diet required.

"Entomophagy, or eating insects, is a practice that dates back to prehistoric times.

Crickets are one of the most common insects people consume. Products containing cricket protein have grown in popularity due to consumer demand for more sustainable protein options.

Insects like crickets are rich in nutrients, especially protein, and may be more sustainable than other protein sources, such as beef."
