This city council is completely useless.  And can't accomplish anything.

Several BC Housing complexes for homeless individuals are opening soon. One in as traditional a neighbourhood as you can imagine, well removed from any other services. One on upper Yates, one on Meares, and a fourth is supposed to open in North Park but I don’t think that has moved ahead yet.

Another is coming to Gorge and Tillicum in Saanich, a fifth in Central Saanich.

Know it all.

More shelters have not solved the problem. Perhaps it's time to look at other solutions, but until then, enforcing overnight and boulevard camping bylaws is essential.

It’s never been a better time to be homeless. Now you get a brand new apartment, free meals, and the cash component of your welfare cheque is much higher.

Free drugs coming soon too.

Sounds like hell. Like living with helicopter parents who are trying to be hip and hang out with your friends.

These man camp trailers that BC Housing had barged over to SSI to house residents of the Seabreeze Inne, at an undisclosed cost but most expect it’s in the million dollar range, are all hooked up and ready to go but still sit empty as the Inne residents have lawyered up and won’t wanna go.

The Inne was purchased by the hospital foundation some months ago in order to house hospital workers, and the current residents need to go before renovations can start.

What a gong show.

If the hospital foundation owns the Seabreeze Inne, can't they evict anyone staying on their property if the "residents" have no lease or other legal permit? What right do they have to be there? Despite the NDP's efforts over the past 5 years, I don't think we have lost all private property rights in BC - yet.

The story is they are tenants and have rights under the tenancy act. Were they ever served renoviction papers? Who were they paying rent to? It’s murky.

People need to have some form of documentation to validate their tenancy, otherwise they are just squatters or trespassers.

You would think so but that is not often the case.

I don’t think that is true. You mean a tenancy agreement?

So if I "find my way" into a vacant house in the Uplands, and no one discovers me there for a while, I can claim that I am a tenant and stay there indefinitely?

They are mostly tenants of bc housing or SSI community services. I’m sure some folks know all the details, but I don’t.

Imagine the uproar if state/corporate media ever used old images or footage in that manner.

Susan Kim's election platform has clear action to contribute to this issue:

"Remove the prohibition against daytime sheltering in parks"
