I'm not voting in Vic... Someone should ask if the candidates plan to continue the City of Victoria's membership with the Global Covenant of Mayors and if they do will they be transparent and issue public reports and access to all communication that takes place with this organization?

Also ask if the Mayoral Candidate will join the United Nations Forum of Mayors (Like Lisa belonged to) and if they do also provide public access to all communications within this organization.

I’m sure any communications can be FOI’d? No?

Shouldn't have to pay for it and know exactly what to ask for and be subject to redaction. If our city staff is belonging to a covenant that has a billionaire and a UN official providing strategic directions where they are earning "badges" for completing missions it should be public....

Is it just me who finds it an issue that an American Billionaire and a UN official (there is the UN again) are providing strategic direction to our city council? Without anyone even really knowing this?

I guess Lisa failed to get her Missing Middle badge before leaving office...  "Buildings" are a big part of our naughty pie chart.

And we wonder why they seem to be taking on all these global issues instead of keeping our parks open to the public....

The Victoria City Police Union (VCPU) will host an all-council candidate virtual forum with City of Victoria prospective councillors on policing and public safety. This first-time event for the VCPU was designed with the objective of providing candidates the opportunity to share their views and ideas related to public safety and the challenges faced by residents, businesses, and members of the Victoria City Police Union.

“We wanted to provide an opportunity for the public to hear from each candidate on the issues that are impacting our police members and the safety and well-being of the community,” said Tom Stamatakis Jr., VCPU Union Spokesperson. “We are hoping for a great discussion on these important issues.”

The forum will take place on Zoom and will be livestreamed onto YouTube for public viewing. The conversation will be moderated by Richard Zussman, a Victoria-based television reporter for Global BC.

Due to the large number of council candidates, the event will be held over two-nights, with each candidate participating on one-night only. This will allow viewers the opportunity to hear more from each candidate.

Wednesday, October 5, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Candidate Participants:

Ben Isitt

Stephen Hammond

William Scott

Jason Jones

Derek Pinto

Sandy Janzen

Susan Kim

Emmanuel Parenteau

Jeremy Caradonna

Tom Braybrook

Julia Alvarez

Jordan Quitzau

Krista Loughton

Susan Simmons

Thursday, October 6, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Candidate Participants

Tony Yacowar

Matt Dell

Shea Smith

James Harasymow

Gary Beyer

Chris Hanna

Janice Williams

Steve Orcherton

Chris Coleman

Marg Gardiner

Dave Thompson

Council candidates will answer questions related to VicPD’s role in the community, increased call loads related to supportive housing, the challenges of having high volumes of police membership on-leave, and recruitment and retention issues.

The public can tune in on the VCPU YouTube page: https://www.youtube....ePS3z8pe11l8Jyw

Please note: YouTube will allow a dedicated link to the event when it begins. This link which will be tweeted on the VCPU Twitter account at the time of forum. Each recording of the forums will remain on the VCPU YouTube page for future viewing.

I just think it’s a bad idea the police union gets cozy with council candidates.

It’s not unlike the fire department blocking roads and holding out the boot. It can get corrupt fast.

Thousands of “panhandlers” in oversized suspenders camp outside of town squares and churches and major intersections every Labor Day. Instead of fast food cups, they plead with passersby to donate what they can into large rubber galoshes, exhorting them to "Fill the boot!" Perhaps that is why they are so well-received by busy motorists. It also helps that these men are standing in front of fire engines.

The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has turned this spectacle into a wildly successful charity benefit, generating about $20 million each year for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. But a series of multi-million dollar payments from the charity to the scandal-plagued labor union have led some fire fighters and union officials to question the arrangement.

The fire department at Mesachie Lake literally stops traffic along the Circle Route in a quasi-road check setup complete with a lane narrowing and lights, then a guy asks you for money.

Yes, it's not good.
