Tofino resort co-owned by former NHL star cancels fishing derby after 'highly inappropriate behaviour at event

https://vancouverisl...event-1.6068602

In a brief statement published on the tournament website, the resort says it is continuing "to take steps to ensure the absolute safety and well-being of our team."

"We were extremely upset to hear about highly inappropriate behaviour connected to one of our annual events," the resort said. "Our first concern is for our staff, and we are responding to the needs of those affected."

Rumours on Reddit/Twitter imply all of the restaurant staff walked out due to sexual misconduct towards one or more of their co-workers.

These articles are funny, in that not one of them has any idea what the activity was/is.

Trying to be the first to write about it possibly? Or they aren't able to confirm what they know, and can't include it at the risk of being sued for libel?

Anyways, I don't want to post the rumours here but if you're curious it's easy to find on Reddit/Twitter.

Oh, yes.  I see now, via Reditt.  Lots seems to centre on Willie Mitchell.

The Lonely Dougs, a Tofino-based band, were told Tuesday morning by Tofino Resort and Marina that their show, scheduled for Tuesday evening, was cancelled.

“The 1909 staff walked out,” was the reason band member Kieran Campbell said he was given for why his band couldn’t perform as scheduled.

Alvin Brendan of Vancouver-based Bungalow The Band, who were supposed to perform Wednesday night, said they’d also been told the series was off.

Phone calls to the Tofino Resort and Marina’s guest services line and to the 1909 Kitchen and Bar went unanswered.

Mitchell and Hamhuis are part of a group of investors, that includes developer Andrew Purdey, who purchased the high-end resort in 2016.

Mitchell apparently deleted his Instagram account at some point on Wednesday morning, an account he’d used to share many photos of him fishing and out on the water.
