^Not to mention the great view of the indoor pool in the house right beside the public lookout.

Saanich’s Mount Tolmie ranks as one of ‘Canada’s most beautiful views’

The 120-metre peak ranks 3rd in Canada, behind Salt Spring’s Mount Maxwell in second

Moti is doing work on the road to the top of Maxwell, btw. It has been essentially cut off for vehicles for years. I think they are filling potholes and grading the washboard. The biggest pothole has a name - Big Bertha.

Fifty cent road, million dollar view.

Isn’t it paved? I’ve only been once but thought it was paved.

Certain parts may have pieces of pavement.

I was able to get up in a minivan about six years ago, a Corolla wouldn’t make it. Since then it’s been high clearance only and it’s just gotten worse. Impassible for most, people go half way and walk the rest. :)

There was a time you could drive up Mt. Finlayson.

Know it all.

I was reading about how the Skywalk has a free shuttle from downtowne. And I was thinking it’s a shame that two of Greater Victoria’s best and most popular parks, Mt. Doug add Goldstream have no bus service. No bus to the top of Mt. Tolmie either, unless a tourist bus goes there (?).

Hop On Hop Off goes to Oak Bay but not Cadboro Bay or Mt. Tolmie. Those would surely be quality and popular spots.

Lots of buses go up Mt. Tolmie. I don't know if they're cruise ship tours or what they are, but there be plenty of them.

Hikers and neighbours in Saanich have been doing double-takes this weekend after spotting a portable toilet perched in an unusual and highly visible spot on Mount Tolmie.

The blue unit, normally stationed at the summit for park users, somehow ended up partway down a ledge.

For several days it’s been dangling there, catching the eyes of passersby and prompting calls and emails to CHEK News from curious residents.

The District of Saanich says it is aware of the situation. A spokesperson told CHEK News their contractor cannot retrieve the toilet because of its precarious placement down the slope.

Surely they can hire a crane truck to retrieve it?

So their solution is just to leave it there?

Not very pretty, would you appreciate one dumped in your backyard?

An overturned porta-potty that caught the attention of many on Mount Tolmie over the weekend has been returned to the summit, according to Saanich.

However, the unit is still awaiting an exchange for a clean unit which a spokesperson for the district says should take place “sometime tomorrow.”

A tow truck winched the porta-potty up to the summit by a tow truck.

Hikers on the mountain initially reached out to CHEK News on Aug. 23 asking about the porta-potty which is normally at the summit, but instead was on its side partway down the hill.

On Sunday, the District of Saanich told CHEK News it was aware of the situation and that their contractor did not retrieve it due to the precarious place on the mountain.

Were two tow trucks somehow involved?
