Victoria business adds barbecue department in wake of closure of iconic Capital Iron

They even hired former Capital Iron staff

With the closure of Capital Iron, Victoria family business Lumberworld has added a specialty barbecue section to its Quadra Street location.

They’ve even hired some of the experts who formerly worked at Capital Iron, the company said.

“We wanted to bring new life into our company and add to what we offer our customers,” said Frank Clarke, operation manager at Lumberworld. “Living in a location where we can barbecue 12 months of the year, we wanted to ensure Victorians had a place to continue to shop for specialty items with experts to help.”

Mark Bradley and Mark Besner, the so-called Grill Marks, made their way from their long-term tenures at Capital Iron to Lumberworld and set up a new department.

The duo worked for Capital Iron for a combined 10 years, the company said, and they are now offering charcoal, gas, wood pellet and self-feeding pellet barbecue options and are sharing their wealth of knowledge on all things grilling.

“We pride ourselves on a white glove service for our barbecue customers which means we assemble, test and deliver the new barbeque right to your door and most importantly recycle your old one,” said Clarke. “We want to make it easy for people to get exactly what they need and want.”

The section also includes a focus on outdoor pizza ovens, a growing trend.

Know it all.

Nobody has any hardware issues?

when I was leaning against the jimmy Kimmel show like described in the other thread, it was next to the Tim Allen star people would take a photo of it and I’ll ask them what time it was, they were supposed to say “Tool Time” I did this several times but nobody seem to get the joke

‘I’m not paying that’: Lake Cowichan business closing after 100% rent hike

A 70-year-old family business in Lake Cowichan is being forced to close its doors after receiving a 100% increase in its rent.

For 46 years Rod Peters has walked through the door of his building supply store, and helped people build their piece of paradise in the town of Lake Cowichan. The 75-year-old says he has loved every minute of it.

“Yes. Because our family’s heart was in it, the community’s heart was in it,” said Peters.

It does look as though they also have a Home Hardware there but with no lumber yard like Irly has/had.

Rod used to be the Mayor of Lake Cowichan. His brother Bill nicknamed him “Porky”.

The council of the day was lovingly referred to as Porky’s Posse.

Small town…. Good times.

I like True Value in the states, they have knowledgeable staff and carry odd items that others don't.

Shelbourne Plaza:

Many people will recall when the hardware store was owned and run by Sleggs and boasted a small lumber supply.  The hardware store has always been run by friendly, helpful people and the present family is no exception to this rule.
