🔹Netflix filming series based on Victoria’s 1997 Reena Virk murder🔹

The 1997 murder of Saanich teenager Reena Virk will be the central theme of a new series from streaming service Netflix.

According to former Saanich Police constable Chris Horsley, who discovered Virk’s body in the Gorge Waterway near a bridge connecting Saanich with Esquimalt and View Royal, the series will be loosely based off a book by Rebecca Godfrey called Under the Bridge.

Horsley dropped the news of the upcoming series during an episode of the Victoria City Police Union podcast called True Blue.

Virk was murdered by teenagers during a get together along the shores of the Gorge Waterway. Wikipedia states:

“While at the bridge, it is claimed that teenagers drank alcohol and smoked marijuana as Virk stood among them. Virk was swarmed by a group later called the Shoreline Six.“

People can do whatever they want of course. Godfrey has been dead for a few years (and lived on the Atlantic coast when it happened) and Horsley is a jerk.

Good on them.

Perhaps they deserve one another.

Watched the first couple episodes on Hulu. Canadians aren’t supposed to get Hulu, but let’s just say I do.

Little overdramatic in parts, first time I ever heard of a “bic”(a young Victoria person, who apparently to the police just waste their time “another bic” “disposable like the lighter”). More or less 90s CRD, I suppose.

Thinking back everything seems a bit grainy, I was just a young bic tween.

Did have a small group called the ***bics but we had disbanded by the end of grade 6 or so. I don’t think had anything to do with the lighter we didn’t even smoke yet back then. Actually was an AI theme, quite early for the 90s, digital pets were all the rage.

I don’t have any authority, but I call them jackasses. It’s not that I don’t care

I guess it might be in the book? I haven’t read it

Also brought up in the series:
“..When she was 14, she started to hang out with a group of teens including Nicole Cook. In the novel “Under the Bridge” it details how Virk allegedly spread rumors about Cook saying she had fake breasts, wore colored contact lenses and had AIDS…”: https://ca.news.yaho...-153348828.html

I saw a documentary about it last fall.... I can't remember where but it was a crime series similar to "fear thy neighbour" on one of the streaming services, either Amazon, Netflix or Tubi.

Edit: found it:
