But the company cancelled its final two sailings on Wednesday — the 4 p.m. out of Nanaimo and the 6:30 p.m. out of Vancouver.

Caddick would not reveal details about the technical problem. “I don’t think we need to go deeper than that,” he said.

The company has talked to Damen, the builder of the vessels, he said.

“Early issues are very common as you get up and going with a new vessel,” Caddick said. “So it is nothing that shouldn’t be expected as you launch a new service with a new vessel in new waters. We quickly resolved the issue.”

The 10 o'clock sailing had passengers load onto the boat up to 9:59. The crew were dressed in the same fashion as the to the Jetsgo attendants back around 2005. I kind of like their company logo as well.

The seats are comfortable if with not much leg room, at least for comfort class on the economy, "Comfort Class". The loading on this floor is perhaps 33%.

Most older people were driven while quite a few backpack types walked from downtown centre. The bus loop is about a 15 minute walk.

Yowza! I didn't realize the Hullo boats defied gravity.

Thoroughly enjoyed hullo. Only 35 minutes faster or so, but feels a lot quicker. Arriving at Canada place is fun. Drinks and snacks are complimentary for the upgraded tiers. All in all a good option, hope they do well

Landing downtown sure is a big difference. Walk right up to Cactus!

Hullo ferry service is adding an extra late night sailing from Vancouver to Nanaimo for people looking to catch the Beyonce concert on Monday, Sept. 11.

The sailing departs from Vancouver at 11:30 p.m. with an estimated arrival time on the Island at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It’s the first time ever that Hullo is offering an event sailing, which could become a more regular feature for the ferry line.

“We anticipate it going well,” said Hullo Ferries CEO Alistair Caddick. “Anticipate it being fun and everyone being in a good mode.”

They never did quite ramp up to the number of sailings promised.

This was the plan for after August 30:

Pretty normal for a new company to adjust service to meet demand. Imagine the labor cost involved in running a 2nd shift on a boat. Way cheaper to run 1 shift/day if that's meeting customers needs.

It's a bit of chicken and egg though, right?

If the schedule isn't frequent some people will not take it.  If the schedule is very frequent, they will have low volumes per sailing.

With almost an entire month of sailing together, we're elated to announce our October & Special Event Sailing Schedule with you!

We've taken your feedback and made a few tweaks to better suit your travel needs. This includes 4 round-trip sailings for all of October and 10 special late-night sailings for key concerts and games! 🎉

We're talking Coldplay, Pink, Morgan Wallen, the Canucks games, and more. Islanders can now #SayHullo to an easier, more affordable way to enjoy a night on the town.

I wish them well, just not sure there is enough of a market for this.

Long term it might work.

Nanaimo has a later ferry than Victoria now.  Seems we are underserved.

Nanaimo has always had a later ferry than Victoria. 10:45pm from Tsawwassen to Duke Point.
