It sounds like it’s not about attracting more fans, but having a facility to accommodate them.

We don’t need to he spending taxpayer dollars for these games. Kelowna can gist as many as they want, and pay for it.

Know it all.

I presume Kelowna is paying big for these games.

I mean, they could play elsewhere in Vancouver.

Kelowna's stadium has regular seating for 2300, but they expand that to 17,500 for the Lions games.

We can't do that, can we?

One can put a temporary stadium anywhere you want.   They did it in Vancouver when BCPl was under renovations.

Surging Lions take six-game win streak into West Division semifinal
The B.C. Lions scored a 27-21 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.

After a dreadful start to the season, the B.C. Lions are heading into the CFL playoffs on a six-game winning streak following a 27-21 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.

With the win, the Lions clinched second place in the West Division and a home playoff game. The victory improved B.C. to 11-7 and the Lions will now face the third-place Calgary Stampeders — who also finished with an 11-7 record — in the West semifinal on Nov. 1 in Vancouver.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who finished fourth in the West with a 10-8 mark, will crossover and travel to Montreal to play the 10-8 Alouettes in the East Division semifinal on Nov. 1.

An interesting tidbit about that UVic stadium expansion; the temporary grandstands used for the Games were supplied by a California company; after the games the company offered up the seating to the university for - $100,000. They said "no". Just imagine - we could have had a 33,000-seat venue for about one-fifth the cost of the average Victoria condo today. No one ever said Victoria was particularly visionary.....

How often do you think we'd have used 30k seat venues since then? Maybe a couple times a year on average, more now certainly than in the 90s... it's hard to justify perhaps back then, and it certainly would also have come with a space and maintenance cost.

There will be Leos prowling Langford again.

The B.C. Lions will meet the Edmonton Elks in a Canadian Football League pre-season game at Starlight Stadium on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 4 p.m. The Lions played an exhibition game at Starlight Stadium this year against the Calgary Stampeders in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 6,000.

The 2026 CFL exhibition and regular-season schedule was unveiled Tuesday. The Island got a consolation prize.

The big prize, previously announced, for off-site Lions games has gone to Kelowna, which will host two regular-season games June 27 and July 4 against the Stamps and Elks at the Apple Bowl, while B.C. Place Stadium is being utilized for seven games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup of soccer.

The BC Lions are taking their community programs on the road this winter, with school visits scheduled for Duncan and Victoria as part of a province-wide tour.

From Jan. 27 to 29, Lions players will be in Duncan delivering the Energy Champions program, which teaches elementary students about environmental responsibility and sustainability. The program is designed for students from kindergarten to Grade 7 and encourages kids to become everyday “energy champions” in their homes and communities.

The tour continues in Victoria from Feb. 10 to 12, where players will present the Be More Than A Bystander program – an initiative that helps students understand the impacts of gender-based violence.
