I wondered about that. Some Canadians were looking for a legit alternative and couldn’t find one. I’m guessing there wasn’t one and pubs just played it on the DL.

Yes there was no Canadian commercial option is what I heard.

It's altogether too easy now for just anyone to bring it up on their phone, their own personal Netflix account then cast it to any willing smart TV in a bar.  I think that happened a lot.

If they were caught not paying, Joe Hand prosecutes.  And he wants 10x the retail cost for it now.

How Joe Hand Promotions Enforces Its Rights

Joe Hand Promotions typically uses a network of investigators to monitor businesses on event nights. These investigators visit bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, hookah bars, cigar lounges and other establishments, documenting unauthorized broadcasts by taking pictures, recording videos, and gathering evidence such as the number of patrons present and the number of TV's that show the fight. If a venue is found broadcasting without the proper license, Joe Hand Promotions will usually file a lawsuit.

You have to make the penalty fit.  Joe Hand has to pay a lot of money for those rights.

Bar owners I think well know they are not allowed to show this kind of thing without proper licensing.  Just like they cannot show a movie or play recorded music without paying fees.

Which strikes me as 1998 backwards and similar to the Napster saga.

Instead of having a commercial usage option for an event like this, where you pay via the app on the TV or on your phone, they have this whole circus running around.

It’s tragic.

Oh ya, I agree it's an odd way to do it.

This won’t make the sport of boxing any new fans.

I was very disappointed.

Apart from the buffering issues (that still happened last night), the fights were dull or just wrong.

In the first round, you can see Jake Paul was scared of being hit by Tyson. But after Tyson hit him, by the second round, Paul was relaxed. What happened to the training tapes people saw and what Roy Jones Jr. said of Tyson at ringside?

Did Tyson purposefully take it easy on Paul or is Tyson really washed up?

I pointed out to family something was wrong with Tyson. There was a vacancy in his eyes as he headed towards the ring, like he didn't want to be there or wasn't there.

This was my return to boxing after many years. I watched Friday Night Fights, pay-per-views with big names like De La Hoya.

I stopped watching after Shannon Briggs vs George Foreman. Foreman won, but the judges thought different.

I don't think I'll watch any more boxing after this fiasco.

The boxing match between Logan Paul and Conor McGregor feels more real every day. The Mac Life reported a few more details about the rumored exhibition boxing match, and McGregor reposted their report.

According to The Mac Life, McGregor is set to make a whopping $250 million for his efforts. Paul’s expected purse wasn’t mentioned, but it’s reasonable to assume it’s in the same ballpark.

Logan Paul vs. Conor McGregor: $250M Mega-Fight Set for Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in Historic Visit India Campaign

Conor McGregor is preparing for a monumental return to combat sports in 2025, stepping outside the UFC for what could be one of the biggest boxing events in history. McGregor, 36, has been confirmed to face WWE star and social media influencer Logan Paul in a mega-money showdown hosted by India’s royal Ambani family. Both fighters are reportedly set to earn an unprecedented $250 million each. The fight will take place at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium as part of India’s “Visit India” tourism campaign.

McGregor, known for his explosive style and charismatic persona, has not competed since his devastating leg injury in July 2021 during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. Initially slated to return to the UFC against Michael Chandler in June 2023, McGregor withdrew, citing a broken pinky toe. This high-profile boxing bout represents a fresh chapter in his illustrious career, which includes featherweight and lightweight UFC championships.

The Ambani family, led by Mukesh Ambani—ranked as the ninth-richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $120 billion—are orchestrating the event. Known for their ventures in telecommunications, petrochemicals, and sports, the family views this fight as a landmark moment for Indian sports and tourism.

Well, it was free, no?  With your Netflix subscription.

Prime Video did a real good job with their two Christmas Day NFL games.  Nobody complained about the technical side.

Paul has the opportunity and potential to become a WWE legend. He’d make a great heel.

We were all hoping for a Pulp Fiction ending there. Oh well..I had a good time watching with my son. But ya. No need to do that again. It makes me think… is all boxing just a more realistic WWE?

It’s making me wonder, too.

Connor MacGregor has a small stature and will be dwarfed by Paul. Is boxing so lacklustre now that it has to veer into this realm? I think it might be.

Know it all.

I think the moniker "Exhibition Match" now means a simple business plan aimed at providing an entertaining display of faux fighting between two very well known figures.

The exhibition match however, really has nothing to do with actual boxing or MMA events, rather its unstated intent is just to provide a pure entertainment.

It is indeed the new wrestling.

The issue now would be that it appears these entertainment events are all set with the unstated goal of Paul winning each one of them, rendering these events less and less entertaining (are we already there?) as time goes by.

Actual boxing or MMA events between ranked fighters remain quite entertaining - whereas these "events" promoted by Paul - not entertaining at all.

Rather than promoting the sport he loves, Paul is using his money to bribe the legends into participating in a humiliation ritual.

Was not enjoyable with Tyson. Won’t be with MacGregor either.

Makes sense why the purse is so large - that’s the cost of publicly humiliating Conor.
