Legendary CKNW broadcaster George Garrett passed today at age 89; the man was a living BC broadcast legend. He was a genuainely kind and gentle soul who had an absolute legendary list of political and business contacts. He broke many stories in BC and beyond at a time when CKNW was the undispiuted king of Western Canadian radio, talk format and otherwise. Garrett spent 43 years in radio all with CKNW before retiring in 1999. That is practically an unheard of run with the same electronic media employer, especially AM radio which has felt the brunt, along with print newspapers, of the digital revolution. RIP George.
