Do you think Netflix is expensive now?
$16 to see one film in a theatre, or $15/mo. for unlimited viewing of about 4,300 movies and 2,300 TV shows on Netflix. With about 100 new titles added each month.
We used to pay $5 to rent a movie, requiring us to go to a store, and return it the next day.
I think we have it pretty good.
I didn't say it was expensive now, I was merely pointing out that when they increase the content available they will increase the subscription price.

Yes, probably by adding another tier. It makes sense, I guess. People will sign up if they think the value is there.

Paramount is challenging Netflix’s takeover of Warner.
Paramount Skydance on Monday launched a hostile bid worth $108.4 billion US for Warner Bros. Discovery, throwing a wrench into the deal with Netflix in a last-ditch effort to create a media powerhouse that would challenge the dominance of the streaming giant.
Netflix had seemingly emerged victorious on Friday from a weeks-long bidding war with Paramount and Comcast, securing a $72-billion US equity deal for Warner Bros. Discovery's TV, film studios and streaming assets. But Paramount's latest attempt means the jockeying for Warner Bros. and its prized assets HBO and DC Comics will not come to a conclusion swiftly.
Unlike Netflix, Paramount is also offering to buy the cable television assets of Warner Bros. Paramount executives said their offer is worth about $18 billion US more than the competing bid from Netflix, which they said is based on an "illusory prospective valuation" of those cable assets.

Peter Menzies: The CRTC, having made things worse and fixed nothing, prepares to do more
The Americans, not at all keen on the idea that their companies have to subsidize another country’s cultural ambitions, are watching all of this with great interest.
https://www.readthel...tm_medium=email
Sometime early in the new year, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is expected to cross its fingers and issue a decision that will define how Canadians can watch streamed content and, probably, how much more they’ll inevitably have to pay for it.
And it will do so with a small prayer that its ongoing efforts to outsource the burden of funding for the Canadian film and television industry to Netflix and the other U.S. streaming giants won’t make U.S. President Donald Trump any more grumpy than he already is and trigger retaliatory action against Canada for picking on American companies.
This will be the second major announcement from the CRTC. A couple of weeks ago, Nov. 18 to be precise, the federal regulator announced a new method of defining Canadian content (Cancon). That was the first of two decisions stemming from a wide-ranging consultation and the second, which it said will be published “in the near future,” involves spending and prioritizing Canadian programs, including news. That’s where the rubber is expected to hit the road.

Netflix released the eighth and final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 on New Year's Eve, wrapping the Duffer Brothers' sci-fi series that began in 2016 with a staggered drop starting November 26. Fans praised emotional payoffs like Dustin's big moment and teen bonding scenes, sharing nostalgia for the '80s world and grown-up cast after a decade on screen. Others criticized the safe resolution, plot armor, and unsatisfying showdowns, with shippers upset over arcs like Byler and Robin's, while critics called it a mixed bag of serious storytelling and flaws. Despite the split, many agreed the Duffer Brothers delivered an unforgettable ride.

It seems by their very design, most TV series must end. Wouldn't the smartest people be making one that is designed to last?
The ones that last are either animated, or have a very large ensemble, interchangeable, and replaceable human cast.

I’d rather start something well rated that has a few seasons, even if I know it is ending. As long as it’s not a cliffhanger ending with no renewal!

I can watch an episode or two now and still enjoy.
Greys Anatomy is a good run. Even though I’m sure only women watch.

I'm into the 7th epsode of the 8-show Black Rabbit. Jude Law and Jason Bateman.
It might have jumped the shark at about episode 6, but I'll finish it out.
I can give it a 8.2/10. Better than many critics.
It's well-produced, has good cast, storylines (perhaps a few too many) and acting.
I think I'll watch that Affleck and Damon one next. The Rip.

The Rip took me three tries to get through. All it did was make me want to watch Good Will Hunting again.
Good advice.

Got through it. It went on for two more episodes than it should have.
Some will be disappointed with the ending.
Some might feel there are few characters to cheer for.
Some might feel it was a bit over the top.
