Had the pleasure of checking out this new place in Esquimalt and it is pretty amazing once you get past the name, which is apparently some combination of the owners' kids names. However, we drove up and the only option was valet which was a pretty fancy treat for Victoria. Then you go inside and someone takes your coat and I was a little shocked that I was still in Victoria. I believe that this is still the same main building from the Old English Inn though it has been completely redone and is truly one of the best makeovers I have seen of a place in Victoria. I am not sure how much they spent but it must have been a ton. The food in a pretty eclectic mix of west coast and bistro fare. It is similar to Rudi and Wind Cries Mary in that it is almost share plates. I was with a big group so we got a good mix of items and I would say that all of them were decent, there were a couple, like the chicken liver pate and the chicken that were outstanding and a few were very good and a couple were just sort of fine but it was a great overall experience. Not the cheapest as you can imagine but still a great choice if you want something different and its a special occasion.

It shows. Yeah I forgot to mention all the plates were from the Savoy.

I’ve been a couple times. It’s nicer than I expected and honestly the cost is super reasonable considering what you get.

They have a really nice and casual bar area too where you can get a beer and pizza.

Is it open without reservation? Anyone can drive up, any time?

I went on a Sunday night and it was packed so I would think resos would be a good idea though you might be able to get into the lounge no resos.

The hotel opened to the public this week, and Janevca did well at the YAM awards - runner up best restaurant, runner up best pastry chef (he’s actually the best) and best new restaurant.
