...Already there are reports of mini tent cities popping up where they've never occurred before and public works crews are starting to warn park users to keep an eye out for needles. And this is info coming out of Saanich.

Good. I welcome the rest of the region having to deal with this issue rather than pushing it all on d/t Victoria.

Why would you say something like that? Have you not had support from ANYONE outside the DT area? I hear and see the point of frustration you've been brought to but I feel like this attitude takes away from the credit you've earned as an advocate against neighbourhood crime.

ID cards start on Monday-ish for access, working in concert with the fence obviously.

Will HB get a media access card?

Hmm, that's a very good point. Seems like identification of these individuals is part of a greater plan.

We're going to see an explosion of camping in parks following tent city's disbanding. Already there are reports of mini tent cities popping up where they've never occurred before and public works crews are starting to warn park users to keep an eye out for needles. And this is info coming out of Saanich.

This started happening before closing off tent city to newcomers. It started to happen when the large numbers of hobo tourists imported to Victoria by mayor and council could no longer fit in tent city. Or were too afraid to stay in tent city.

The downtown business doorways and parks have reverted back to their old uses a while ago already.

We just have to hope that at least some of them go back home once the party is over.

No one who has had to live through this really wishes this on anyone, anywhere.

However, it's been a long frustrating time and we have all heard from many people outside of the downtown area that tent city should stay here and that it is a good thing. Some would even drive across town to come to meetings to tell us that we were heartless not to want tent city in our neighbourhood, next to our young children. IMHO, these people deserve to live next to a tent city for a while.

I'm sure the comment was directed at these people too.

With the exception of the View Royal facility, please tell me which CRD munis are hosting homeless services other than the CoV?

I meant individuals' support. I wasn't clear. I support you, NParker. I just felt you were wishing your and your neighbours' awful dealings upon others. The quote was about mini tent cities and needles and I took it for that. Not as having to host services for the homeless. I'll read it again.

We will soon know if the fencing is for security, or privacy. There are many large entry/exit ways in the fence, and they are not monitored. If they are not monitored, then obviously the fence is not intended for security. If they allow the campers to put up panels then we will know that the fence is intended as a privacy screen.

What I find disturbing, is the so called enforcers, the police, take orders directly from our Mayor, who is also, chief instigator of the entire mess.

Brett made a public statement that she would defy the court August 8 deadline ruling, and the authorities say nothing. Worse the Mayor releases a statement saying we need more tent cities in parks! Which is the exact thing she was saying last July. Only this time we not only have tent city, but many times the number of homeless people in the City than we did last summer.

I have advocated that if there has to be a tent city then it should be away from residential neighbourhoods and schools. There are many areas where a camp could be set up that would be a better fit both for the homeless and everyone else.

I have made this plea many times directly to Mayor and council, it would be an easy, win/win. They refuse, Tent City is the poster child for Helps campaign to solve the Worlds homeless issue.

So have I.  What's the most dense, least troublesome tent city in Victoria now (of the three we have, or two if you just count outdoor ones)?

Choices.

Proving also that they do not have to be "near services", they only need to be a free bus ride away from those services.

ID cards and fences seems like a half baked plan to me designed to try and avoid a showdown on the 8th. I am not sure that this will cause any less grief although it may just spread it out over time.

I think avoiding a showdown is exactly the point... That doesn't seem half baked or a bad idea?

My earlier point was that unless the CoV or Province was prepared to post security 24x7 at all of the entrances then I fail to see how a fence does anything to keep people out.

It also helps that it's set up in a managed, access controlled environment with staff. Helps to keep the gang element out and controls the movement of (stolen) goods. It's what should have been done at SIC the day after the first injunction request was denied.

Drove by this morning and someone has put up a sign that the sidewalk along Burdett is now closed. The fence has been moved to the far side of the sidewalk and tents and rubbish have been pushed out to take over the expanded space. Along Quadra many of the pallets have been removed but rubbish has also now been pushed onto the sidewalk and up to the fence along part of the walk way.

This is not how I envisioned "thinning out" the mess.

There is a sidewalk on the other side.

Relax people, less than a month before it gets real crazy.  Although, I sense the province might make a secret deal with Brett.  That might be smart.
