The Cook Street community tent should prevent these kind of incidents in the future. Campers can stagger down through the wooded path, pick up some new needles at the tent, shoot up in the trees, use the public toilet if it’s still working, then return to the tent to enjoy a hot beverage with their neighbours from the other side of Cook Street.

...until they figure out it's just easier to set up camp on Cook St itself.

Roads are just vacant land waiting to be decolonized, dontcha know!

(Not including bike lanes...)

This is Issit's ultimate wet dream:
1. Punish citizens in general.
2. Interfere with motorists. Thwart the secret conspiracy of auto-makers.
3. Spread the tent city footprint beyond the park itself.
4. Has potential to bring crime to new areas and may cause further environmental harm.
5. Nowhere near where Ben lives.

i see eby says that all of the campers in vancouver's strathcona park (200 or so) will be given homes by the end of april.

looks like homelessness will be all over for this province by then.

can't wait.

Those new homes will probably be in BHP since it will be vacant by March 31.  As a bonus, all the infrastructure already exists there - drainage ditches, campsites, community tent, etc.

Here's the new community care tent on Cook.  141990200_10157354884975793_572277741483

What the...... This will work great on the next dark and rainy night.  Good thing the care tent will be able to provide care to the inevitable head on collision.

Brought to you by the same team that dreamed up the Vancouver Street bike lane disaster.

I walked past the tent location tonight - the tent appears to be up and running, complete with the words 'End the war on the poor' as shown in this CHEK piece:  https://www.cheknews...ll-park-736430/

...'End the war on the poor' ...

Let's start by ending the war on the truth first.

does this mean they are going to remove the unapproved, unwanted activist installed community care tent now they have a city supplied one on cook street... or will they complain it's too far to walk all the way to cook street to get to the tent and need it closer (just like it's too far to walk to our place for a shower)

And the heartwarming "colonial law kills". Glad they are sharing this unifying non-deranged message. This will really win over the hordes of imaginary homeless-haters. The best people! Ben's fantasy really is coming to life.

it’s a hell of a war when this Wednesday they will all get various amounts delivered automatically to their bank accounts. and we feed them every single day. and provide numerous free sundries at that care tent. and ask from them nothing in return.

Let's start by ending the war on the truth first.

Which tactic will we be using today?

Cry Fake News?

Egg on the terrorists?

No transparency?

Downplay the crisis?

Bully and silence opposition?

Celebrate unrelated accomplishments?

I tell ya, Trump DNA is everywhere.

People driving on Cook towards the ocean should just continue to drive in a straight line, really really close to the tent. I'm sure the squatters will take a shortcut through the playground.

This decision certainly places the city in a legal quagmire. By adjusting the travel lanes how they did, there inevitably will be an incident where a vehicle will continue straight, forcing another vehicle to have to react to avoid a collision. The veering towards the curb also places cyclists at risk.

It’s so poorly thought out that I imagine this will be challenged as a serious safety concern. And I don’t mean to be a worry wort, but this is legitimately bad.

The proper thing to do is to lease a commercial space near the park and provide services from there, not this “tent” that is jutting out into a travel lane.

people seem to be able to miss parked cars that appear off and on in the curb travel lanes all over town.  i'm sure they will be fine.  it's a 30kmh zone.  unless there is once-in-100-years blinding fog or smoke or snow that reduces visibility to 5m they will see it.

Par for the course with the CoV SJW council.
