Victoria seeks $3M to $4M in grant funds to enhance community services for unhoused population
Various supports, services for unhoused population part of broad-based funding application
An ambitious set of goals designed to help some of the community’s most vulnerable members is behind Victoria’s application for millions in new provincial funding.
The city’s proposals for the Strengthening Communities’ Services Program grant range from peer outreach and temporary service support for people sheltering in parks, to a tiny homes project, a community safety initiative in Burnside Gorge and additional protective services at night. The application contains between $3 million and $4 million worth of proposals, but staff and council are hopeful the city will gain approval for more than the $2.5 million its population allows for under the grant guidelines.

Doesn’t that clearly demonstrate that they are reneging in their end of the deal they have with Eby and the province!

No one was seriously injured after a trailer caught fire at a problem property in Port Alberni, but Port Alberni’s fire chief says the outcome could have been much worse.
The Port Alberni Fire Department responded to a report of a trailer on fire at the Wintergreen Apartments in the 3600-block of Fourth Avenue just before 5 a.m. on Monday, April 12.
_______________
The Wintergreen Apartments have been a cause for concern for the City of Port Alberni for months. The property, which is located across from the bottle depot on Fourth Avenue, is home to a number of trailers. Property owner Randy Brown began moving trailers behind the apartment complex back in November 2020, offering shelter for the city’s homeless population.
However, the city is concerned about numerous zoning, building code and fire code infractions surrounding the trailers. The trailers are tied into the apartment’s sewer system and extension cords run from each trailer into the building.

Mr. Brown is a saint, buying trailers and giving the less fortunate a place to live, yet he gets vilified for a few minor code violations here and there.. could you imagine how amazing it would be if a cornerstone property in Victoria did the same thing? , park some old travel trailers on the empress lawn and make a meaningful difference!!

"Minor code violations" as you so eloquently put it, are there to protect everyone, even people as ill informed as you.

...taking "saintliness" to its' traditional endpoint of self-immolation is a bit extreme...is it not?

I understand there is a movement afoot for some campers to refuse to be forced indoors. So, shockingly, there is just a remote chance that homelessness won't magically end in May.
