The Tiny Homes Village will be built from re-purposed shipping containers following a successful fundraising campaign by the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness, in partnership with Aryze Developments, that raised nearly $550,000 in donations from the community towards the overall project. The housing will operate for 18 months and be managed by experienced service provider Our Place Society, with funding from BC Housing.
The village is part of the City’s ongoing effort, working in partnership with the Province and BC Housing, to deliver more than 220 temporary indoor housing and shelter spaces for people currently living outside to launch them on a pathway to permanent stable housing.
The City has approved up to $250,000 towards site servicing and operations and will be applying to the UBCM Healthy Communities grant for additional funding for the project. - https://www.victoria...neighbours.html

VICTORIA, BC – (March 5th, 2021) – In less than 3 months time, the citizens and local businesses of Victoria have come together to raise more than $500,000 to fund the capital expenses for 30 transitional housing units to be built from repurposed shipping containers. Set to be located at 940 Caledonia Ave., this tiny home community will provide safe, warm and secure conditions for some of our community’s most vulnerable currently sheltering outside, unhoused. - https://victoriahome...munity-reached/

Just a heads up. Petty crime is up again. Noticeable drug users are going into businesses in the core and stealing regularly. Some businesses (usually larger operations) say it’s daily for them while smaller stores tell me it’s weekly. It’s really bad. Police don’t even respond to theft reporting anymore.. I think they know that. I’m sure many businesses can’t go on like this
In most chain stores, security are told not to engage with shoplifters if they offer any sort of resistance. The crooks know this which is why the larger stores are targeted. There is always the risk at a smaller outlet that they run into an owner operator and risk a baseball bat to the side of their head.
As an aside, please don't refer to these folks as "drug users". They are people with "mental health issues" and are deserving of our sympathy and money.

Lol! I’m a former addict. They’re drug users but I’m catching the sarcasm

Apparently one person is moving. This means the hospital foundation can’t begin work on their renovations to the motel.

Someone lit a fire under their (bc housing) asses last months regarding the “what to do with the people at the Seabreeze Inne” fiasco, so they barged over a bunch of work camp trailer. Nice enough looking boxes all with air con, and private and have been spending no doubt many tens of thousands on landscaping and driveways and other infra only to find the Seabreeze residents don’t wanna go and have hired a lawyer.
Apparently one person is moving. This means the hospital foundation can’t begin work on their renovations to the motel.
Is the trailer site near the Inn? I think a trailer might be nicer and quieter than an old motel. But maybe it's the location of the trailers that people do not like? Or have they lost amenities (TV, kitchen, internet, private bathroom)?

Amazon is temporarily closing its Amazon Go store at Fourth Avenue and Pike Street for "the safety of our store employees, customers, and third-party vendors."

From the article:
In March, King County Metro temporarily moved its bus stop at Third Avenue and Pine Street to another stop in partnership with the city's public safety efforts.
Mayor Bruce Harrell called the situation along Third Avenue "completely unacceptable" in March.
The Seattle Police Department has increased the number of officers in the area with six officers dedicated to Third Avenue alone, as well as, launching a mobile police precinct.

Starbucks closed two "high-incident" locations on Fifth Avenue and on Pine Street on July 31 due to the ongoing crime concerns in the area.
Seattle's popular Piroshky Piroshky Bakery closed its Third Avenue location "until further notice" over "countless safety concerns" in February.
Why would anyone sane allow this? Democrats.
