Noticed today that there are about 3 tents set up on the far east edge of the Stadacona tennis courts, and one heck of a pile of junk near one of the tents.

And now there are bylaw officers and a city dump truck hauling away all the crap.

Our Place had an insert in the TC on Friday. They claimed they handed out 200+ tents and 500+ sleeping bags in March.

I heard the toilets were there a couple of weeks ago but had been removed due to vandalism.

Did Our Place announce this with pride or with shame?

Sounds like an admission of defeat, that they can't move people from that area. Or won't.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed a woman climbing into the dumpster next door to have a rummage. Not unusual, but she was still there five hours later and three men had also arrived. One, who was very unsteady on his feet, was going through the paper recycling bin, pulling out papers and examining them all. After dinner, when she was still there, we noticed a fellow in the apartment on whose property this was taking place, looking out the window while on his phone. A little while later a police SUV arrived. (my husband was dismayed to see it was a Cadillac and wondered why the city needed it). Anyways, after a lot of discussion and messing about, they finally left. It was almost dark by this time. My husband went out to make sure our car doors were locked. We're not all that close to Pandora. Make sure everything's locked up.

Are we sure it wasn’t a police version of the Chevy Tahoe? They replace them every few years, and the latest model is quite flashy for an SUV.

I’ve often wondered why they need SUVs in the first place, but they make sense for K-9 units.

Know it all.

I was just going to say it was likely a Tahoe. It's a close relative of the Caddy. A Cadillac patrol car doesn't really make sense, it's just better to get a tricked out GMC. I don't think they even make police Cadillacs.

Police like them as they are finding the Dodge Chargers not as roomy for a lot of police needs. Particularly the smallish trunk which has to hold the computer system, first aid, and a bunch of other safety stuff. Then they have to haul seized bikes around.

But yes, if you see someone rummaging through your papers, call it in.

Well that didn't take long for him to get back into the poverty business. Did we ever find out why he left Our Place? It says he is the site manager so who is he working for now?

...Evans said all varieties of volunteers are needed; from front line social workers, to people who have experience with customer service or graphic design....

Yeah, because what will really make a difference is some flashy art work. I found this online in seconds. What more is needed?

How any reasonable person thinks the sudden explosion of "homelessness" in the CoV  - and nowhere else in the region - is related to COVID-19 is beyond my comprehension. It's pretty obvious folks are flocking here for the freebies and the complete lack of rules.

I would assume the City hired Don on a contract basis to manage the park situation.

Sounds like it's time for an FOI request to see a copy of that contract.

I don't think it's a big deal Someone experienced has to manage this gong show. We couldn't do it.

Why are we not being told why RAP is suddenly off the table after it was identified as one of three tent city locations?

The Cats were on board with it, but nothing is happening there. What gives?

reports suggest he dabbled once again in a little bit of “lived experience” which is actually a positive on the poverty pimp resume now.
