What are the odds that the Trump administration required Colbert and kimmel’s cancellation as a quid pro quo for approving the mergers?

Another perfect phone call perhaps?

Impeachment number 3 ??

About the same as the network wanting to cancel the show anyway and having an excuse for firing him now and the bonus is it can be blamed on Trump.

So Team blue is only living by their own standards they publicly established. So in some ways that is commendable. 

 

What would make Trump a real president would be if he came out against this cancellation. You know, based on the standards that he established. Based on principle, not the specific guy. Something like.

Kimmel has not tweeted since 2024 but he has 11M followers there.

With that following he could probably just sell t-shirts there and make $200k.

Why not cancel the account though?

Hard disagree. The fcc threatened them, certainly under pressure from Trump. It’s exactly the kind of thing Putin would do.

There is no defensibility here for a right wing who values free speech on one hand, and engages in political cancel culture on the other hand. This is beyond hypocrisy.

I don’t think that’s quite what happened.

Two major broadcasters decided to pre-empt the show, meaning they would not be airing it. Nexstar, one of them, said their decision had nothing to do with the FCC. The other is Sinclair, which is very unhappy over the comments and wants Kimmel to make a donation to Turning Point USA.

ABC then suspended the already failing show, which would no longer air on the largest broadcast networks.

Business is business. The show execs see the writing on the wall and make their moves.

When Twitter banned Trump, Rolling Stone praised the decision as necessary cancel culture. Now the pendulum has swung the other way.

The FCC pressure story has been debunked:

Nexstar, the nation’s largest station owner, denied on Thursday that it pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” off the air due to pressure from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.

The company announced the decision hours after Carr threatened to take action against ABC affiliates over Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s killer. Carr also urged affiliates to preempt the show.

Asked whether Nexstar’s decision was in any way influenced by Carr’s remarks, Gary Weitman, the company’s chief communications officer, said “No.”

“The decision to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ was made unilaterally by the senior executive team at Nexstar, and they had no communication with the FCC or any government agency prior to making that decision,” Weitman said.

Sinclair, meanwhile, called on Kimmel to apologize to Kirk’s family and make a donation to Turning Point USA, and said it would not resume carrying the show until it is confident that standards befitting a national broadcaster are in place.

(NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.

Not a made up story that Trump is canceling TV shows. What he has done is canceled free and easy shipping to the US by small businesses. That’s a real thing he has done.

Roseanne was cancelled.   She was removed from her own show over one twitter joke.  She is a comedian.  The show went on (renamed The Connors) and all the other actors in the show went on, no protest.  

 

Gina Carano was cancelled.   She was a major character in a Disney show and she was removed for pointing out some WW2-era facts.  The show went on with the other cast members and they did not speak up for her.  She has since made a deal on a civil suit against Disney.

 

Megan Kelly was removed from a network daily show because she said Santa was white and people should be able to dress up like Diana Ross at Halloween.  The show (in her name) was cancelled but replaced by another similar show.  The other hosts did not speak up to defend her.  

 

 

 

 

 

Kimmel has been on for 24 years.   He made a statement (not a joke) that suggested the shooter was MAGA, and that's very clearly not the case.  His show was cancelled.
