Hello Vibrant Victoria members,

I am a post grad student studying urban design and need survey participants that live in Fairfield to fill out an on-line survey. The research involves canvassing residents’ opinions about the quality and liveability of Fairfield. If you are keen please follow the link below.

Interesting stuff but I am going to move your thread to the urban issues forum just to keep things on track. Good luck with your research and why are you studying our far flung neighbourhood anyways?

Well cheers for that G-man. I used to live in Victoria and am comparing Fairfield to some of the neighbourhoods here in Wellington- both from a residents opinion and urban setting perspective.

I plan on filling out your survey very soon. I started and realized that it would take longer than 20 mins.
Liar. :)
What neighbourhoods are you comparing it to?
Give us a link to these neighbourhoods!

Yes well 20 minutes there about- verbosity dependent. The other neighbourhoods are both in Wellington NZ. I have attached a web link to their relative resident association web pages- but these aren’t exactly informative. Have a look at the Wellington city web page if your keen.

Interesting...

"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

Do we have to be currently living in Fairfield? I grew up there, and lived there again until a year and a half ago. Your project looks very interesting.
Nowadays most people die of a sort of creeping common sense, and discover when it is too late that the only things one never regrets are one's mistakes.

So how do Wellington and Victoria compare overall?

It looks much larger than its population (~410,000) would suggest. It also looks very dense:

Although I suppose Victoria (~340,000) does, too. But not that much:

Skimming the skyscrapercity page for Wellington, it seems they have a 95 meter height limit on buildings.

There's also a member there by the name of "astro". aastra's persona in another dimension.

Yes, many similarities between Wellington and Victoria, aside from the amphitheatre topography in Wellington which kind of dictates the urban form here. I’d be happy for any former Fairfield residents to do the survey as well. Generally the more responses I get the better (quantity not quality right?)- or is it the other way round? Mmm

The 95m or so building height limit is interesting. The largest developer in NZ donated a Henry Moore sculpture to the city in exchange for an increase in the height allowance. That said the city core is developing rather well- it is the fringes that, like all post WWII areas, need the help.

Feel free to pass the survey link to mates as well.

Cheers

No more interested Fairfield Residents in the on-line survey? I just need a couple more responses to have something sufficient. Forward to your mates?
