It’s pathetic but that’s their job. To craft narrative. Do people really think the news is about bringing people information in an unbiased way?

Nowhere in their job description does it say they are hired to lie.

This was a conspiracy to manipulate and suppress the truth, and they went along with it. Some quit, most carried on knowing what they were doing.

Saying that’s just their job allows these agencies to get off the hook and the people who did their bidding to feel vindicated.

So what’s the repercussion?

All-time low trust in media.

Legacy media is already dead, they just don’t know it yet. Anyone under 40 gets all their news from the internet channels of their choice.
When the boomers die, cable news dies with them.

All day long, though, we cite mainstream media on this forum, for instance. So there is still a lot of trust placed in their work.

But then they only exist in Canada because taxpayers prop them up.

No, that's the editors job. And it's lying without lying. The biggest thing is exactly this. It is in what is put forward or what is suppressed. Nothing will change unless this is realized. That this is NOT UNIQUE to this. It is happening all the time.

The robot will replace the news soon enough. And in an ideal world you will be able to choose your algorithm. But the world is not ideal so expect more of the same, just automated.

Using my robot I will pass on some education here.

From the original "Manufacturing Consent." Just written so it is legible and not boring.

Bernays’ Engineering of Consent in Modern Communication

1. News is something that must be made

Bernays writes that news isn’t just an objective fact that appears on its own—it’s often something organized so that it stands out from the routine flow of events. He says that planned events or actions can be framed so that they become newsworthy and then spread through newspapers, radio, and other channels. This is part of how consent is engineered: by setting up events so that the media will cover them and thus shape public attention and opinion.

2. News shapes attitudes and actions

Bernays argues that news influences how people think and act. When something unusual or non-routine is reported, it draws attention and helps people form opinions. By planning and organizing events, communicators can generate news that communicates certain ideas or themes to the public.

3. The public relations counselor must understand how news works

To be effective, Bernays says, a public relations professional must study and understand the media environment and how news is defined and chosen—including what makes an event newsworthy. This involves understanding journalists’ routines and what kinds of things editors and reporters choose to publish.

4. News is part of the broader communications system

While Bernays doesn’t talk about “the news” in isolation, he places it in context with other forms of communication—pamphlets, radio, lectures, advertising, films, and more. All of these channels can be coordinated to spread ideas and engineer consent.

And here is the part "They" didn't take from Bernays and why we don't study him in school.

5. Ethical dimension of news and persuasion

Although Bernays advocates the scientific and strategic use of communications, he also stresses that those doing the engineering of consent should base their work on facts and truths and not deceive the public. He argues that press freedoms and ethical standards are important so that manipulation doesn’t undermine democratic discussion.

First published in March 1947 in the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. Bernays is the inventor of modern day advertising, propaganda and public relations.

No, that's the editors job. And it's lying without lying. The biggest thing is exactly this. It is in what is put forward or what is suppressed. Nothing will change unless this is realized. That this is NOT UNIQUE to this. It is happening all the time.

Reporters and journalists are eventually faced with one of two paths: acquiesce to what the organization is forcing, or walk.

If you acquiesce, you make a choice to continue hiding the facts, or not delivering the truth. We can call it that, if lying is too brash.

But society normalizes it, if we disregard it, when it stares us in the face.

Also, how many people were unfairly attacked for not buying into the story the MSM was pitching? I recall quite a lot of people very upset at people right here on this forum, who were just suggesting the MSM was not being fair by acting the way they were. Where are they now? They said those who opposed their views, would be on the wrong side of history. Sometimes it's good to step back and be a little more objective, is the lesson here, right?

The Epstein files are another great example. Nothing in the MSM until it could be about Trump....

But yes, The institution SHOULD be neutral and report the facts. But that is not what it was designed to do. Bernays wrote the manual. You should really read his book Propaganda. It is short and to the point and provides the blueprint. Except for his proposals of an ethics council around it. His most informative quote is that propaganda is necessary for a democracy, which is true. We now live in a distortion of that. And everyone reading the news doesn't think they are being propagandized when they are.

I am not supporting what they do. I am illustrating that it is by design and not a flaw.

Why has it taken this long for the public to admit this, though?

Remember when reasonable, intelligent and pragmatic people were on this forum, arguing that Trump was, in fact, a Russian agent? Remember all of that?

It turns out it was Bill Gates with the Russian prostitutes.

I suspect a large number of [whatever demographic ASE is] still believe Trump is a Russian asset / or Russian influence led to his election wins.

These narratives have much more sticking power than the eventual retractions that come out debunking them.

I guess there’s a reason that’s also the demographic that gets scammed by Mr. John Smith with a thick foreign accent, who wants that late CRA payment via Play Store gift cards.
