Prospect Lake group eyes art donations for a new roof

This year’s edition of Art at the Lake, an annual fundraiser for the Prospect Lake District Community Association, is getting started with a donation drive over the next two weekends.

[…]

Donations will be accepted both days from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Prospect Lake Hall, located at 5358 Sparton Rd., just off West Saanich Road.

Signs will guide drivers to the location, where volunteers will be ready to provide quick unloading.

The donated items will be sold via an online auction, followed by an in-person sale of the rest of the donations.

This year’s goal is $20,000, with all proceeds going to the association, which is planning to replace the roof at the hall — built in the late 1950s and one of the few community-owned halls left in B.C

The association said that Art at the Lake has been going strong since 2021 and is becoming known as the place to donate art that needs a new home, “much like the Times Colonist is known as the place to donate books.”

They’re going to need a heck of a lot more money than $20k. Unless that’s just for materials.

Let’s see what Sparky knows.

That’s how these places should be run instead of endless government grants..

It is not a huge building and the roof is pretty straight forward.

Getting quotes myself for a new roof and some companies are starting to get pretty hungry. Far more variation in quotes then I have seen in the past.

I don’t know if I’d want the hungry guys doing my roof, though.

I haven’t seen the variation in quotes. Everyone reputable is pricing like they want you to go away, I felt like.

I just had my roof done, like a week ago, and it was way north of $20k. I was able to get a local company to jump onto my bid because I’m a nice guy :)

(Actually, they just expanded with an additional crew and had fluke-timed capacity for me).

Know it all.

Country fair at Prospect Lake

A curated artisan village with vendors offering vintage and upcycled goods is at the heart of Local Folk & Found Spring Fair, which takes place Sunday at Prospect Lake Community Hall.

Live music, craft supplies, mini-goats, a spring flower stand, non-alcoholic cider stand, face painting, garden lawn games, tarot readings and a poetry station are among the array of offerings with a country-fair flair. Admission to the event, which runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., is $3. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Prospect Lake Community Hall is located at 5358 Sparton Rd.
