Haven't seen it but for those who might not be aware, all game shows are terrible now (as per the pattern that all mainstream media has been following for several years). Today's Price is Right has zero energy compared to the Bob Barker days. Same thing for Let's Make a Deal. It can be painful to watch.

And (no offense) most of the modern primetime game shows have tended to be glaringly fake with obviously fake contestants and outcomes and so forth. That's not new, they were already reeking of fakeness back in the late 2010s. But in 2020 everything went over the top. The "tell us a bit about yourself" part is often way too convenient to be true in terms of servicing whatever larger agendas or narratives happen to be in play.

Obviously game show contestants have always been mostly actors and/or entertainers, but even so, the daytime shows traditionally seemed much more believable to me. I can still watch some vintage Bob Barker clips and they don't seem fake to me even now.

Same thing for the funny Wheel of Fortune clips.

If the show involves the contestant holding the microphone in his/her hand, I can't help but notice how many of them will consistently keep the mic near their mouths even when supposedly jumping for joy or reeling in disappointment. Most non-media people would need to be regularly reminded about the microphone they're holding. Because otherwise they'd constantly be lowering it or banging it around or whatever.

The only one I watch is Jeopardy, which is more knowledge based than game based.

I have also noticed several TV series that I watch that used to be fairly good have turned into bad imitations of themselves. Some shows stayed with the same quality they started with, like Blue Bloods, others not so much.

I could never get into price is right or jeopardy with their new hosts. Some shows should die with their iconic host imo.

I read somewhere that Wheel is so popular because those at home can guess it like 50% of the time before the contestants. Especially if a whole family watches together. Shows like Jeopardy have a much smaller “audience guesses correct first” rate.

Then shows like Password or Pyramid the audience already knows the word/category, so you just watch the players struggle. Although you have the revolving celebrities which is interesting.

Family Fued is probably good for TV audience “participation” as you as home can guess at least one or two in each question category.

To me the Deal or No Deal or whatever that one with the briefcases was just silly.

I don’t know, lock me in a room with only the Bob Barker Price is Right and I’ll be pretty happy. I always enjoyed it, even if I didn’t go out of my way to watch it regularly. It’s even kind of neat watching the old ones with the new cars in the 70’s or the big console TVs.

Hollywood Squares was pretty good.
