So have they actually said there won't be any parking? There's already a lot of space for parking on the street in the Songhees, and I thought they were planning to build a hotel? So there would be parking there as well, no?

Of course it is, as Vancouver city council hates cars, and they like to mess with a good thing.
Not to interrupt your good rant with facts, but CMHC runs Granville Island and the city of Vancouver has not much say in its operation given the CMHC is part of the federal government.

While Granville Island is a federal district, it does not exist within a bubble. The federal government works with local governments to be a conduit for their policies and desires, not to oppose them and go rogue within their civic borders.
Granville Island's potential car-free future is a reflection of the municipal government's overall agenda.

Word from a Promontory resident is that rail tracks are being lifted!

Are you able to get a visual on that, Gary?

I've managed to secure a good shooting location, pics on the way...

Uhhhh.....no trains will be on those rails ever again seems like the most valid and reasonable answer

I think they mean the rails not along the main rail line. There are several spurs there.

Uh yeah...that really wasn't my point. I meant, what is the purpose at this stage in the redevelopment of the site? Thanks however, for pointing out the blatantly obvious.

The drone would have had shots 45 minutes ago.

That wasn't blatantly obvious this photo is and is for the benefit of those who are not familiar with the site.
There are about 7 sidings that will be removed here visible from roof of Promontory
or from ground level

That wasn't blatantly obvious...
What was blatant was your need to emphasize the fact that the train won't likely run again.

I was out early there this morning and it looked as though there was some ground work being started. I will post a picture later today if it looks significant enough.

I am certain it wont be running again. the BUDD cars are long gone and having a good life now.
Blatant as it is I believe it to be a fact. Graham Bruce has done nothing to bring the trains back nothing except pay himself a big salary.

The rail yards there probably have some serious contamination issues there too. they used to burn everything including old coaches and creosote ties...basically everything that could be burned was. there is also a buried dump to the right side of the roundhouse on the hill towards promontory

Sorry folks, after closer inspection it is a false alarm. What our fine resident saw was rebar assembly for the Encore project.
However, she was just at a meeting with the Bayview folks and was told that remediation will start this week. She was also told that they are looking into new designs for the hi-rise buildings at Roundhouse.

This is Victoria: that probably translates into shorter with less density.
