When I chatted with Patricia Mariash last summer she joked they had drilled more holes at the Roundhouse site than there were oil wells in Alberta. I think they have a pretty good idea of the amount of contamination.

During the spring street fair I chatted with one of the other Roundhouse folks. He mentioned that they were considering moving the density to put a tall building at the spot closest to Spinnakers. He said the idea was to give a "lighthouse" effect to people entering the harbour.

Word from a Promontory resident is that rail tracks are being lifted!

No tracks have been lifted yet, but workers are using an old siding as a rebar assembly area.

These tracks look to be coming up soon though.

Those are forms for structural columns for the job up the hill.

More room to work here than in the excavation

I've had an update from my "source", apparently remediation is now being postponed to the November time frame due to a lack of sites that will take the contaminated dirt.  The plan is to grind up the Encore excavation pile and use it for back fill.  We'll see.

I think we now know what the Bridge Systems trailer was for - to provide support, most likely electrical to the movie/TV episode being filmed at the Roundhouse.  This afternoon they were shooting inside the roundhouse and had MANY lights around the perimeter, including a couple of gigantic ones, all shining at the windows, which were covered in translucent white plastic or fabric sheets.  At least the Roundhouse is getting some good use, just not the kind we're all waiting for.

They were filming in there last week as well they are doing scenes inside where the location is doubling as a warehouse where Christmas Parade Floats are assembled.

Hence the sign "Sunshine Floats" in the first pic.

Must be the same production that turned the Pagliacci's block of Broad Street into a Christmas shopping set a couple of weeks ago.

Ken and Patricia Mariash will be throwing a couple of RSVP (re-)engagement parties the first week of December at the Car Shop.  One will be for Bayview residents, including new owners at Encore, the other will be for the wider nearby community.  They plan on sharing "some exciting new plans that are in the works for the Bayview Place property".    :teacher:

Come to the 2016 VV Xmas get together to hear the scoop.

Yes... I rec'd an invitation yesterday.  This will be very interesting.  It being at the CAR SHOP makes me think we could even see some new plans, along with that exciting news.

Ken and Patty Mariash must be on a high right now, considering how Encore sold out before even the beginning of construction. I really hope the Roundhouse will finally be brought to fruition soon.

I have said this before, nothing makes me sadder than to see the Roundhouse rotting away all these decades ... I think it is the greatest opportunity Victoria has is to restore it into something really incredible. Yes, I know plans are in the works but I want to see action not hear about visions ...

Call me an optimist, but I don't think it's that far away.

The roundhouse has not been rotting away for decades it was used each and everyday since it was built and only stopped being used fulltime after the Dayliner left. Since then it has been used for many other events

April 28 2011

Jan 2012

The building is probably more structurally sound than the Legislative Building

I had many opportunities to go in there for photography and other purposes

It may have been used in some limited fashion, I still think it was rotting away, just like the tracks ...

I dunno, the roundhouse was one greasy place.  Hard to play around in when I was a kid without getting huge grease stains all over us.  I'm sure it's a remediation nightmare.  The car shop is fine.
