Still doesn’t look fully finished from the front, but folks have moved in here now.

The sidewalk and bike lane are finally reopened along Fort in front of the building.

The 800-block of Fort Street, known for generations as Antique Row for its collection of antique, used furniture and vintage houseware retailers, will undergo significant change in the coming years as multiple mixed-use development efforts aim to revive the business opportunities along the commercial corridor.

I must say this looks a lot better than I imagined. Silk purse from a sow's ear.

The street level restoration is very nicely done.

It really is. That's black tile right at the ground. Perhaps even better than the original. Recall that a century or so ago the front of this building was chopped off for a street widening. That's why the interior support pillars you can see are unusually close to the front.

It wasn't showing on my other device for some reason, but I can plainly see it now.  Thanks!

The ground floor has apparently been leased.

Recall that this building was built, 60 units, ZERO parking.

I think we would be a bit naive to think that Harris Green will be full of families.

Further up Harris Green, opposite Moxies, those are some pretty big condo units.  Not many families

Families or couples, but there’s a very high likelihood people renting a brand new 2BR+ apartment have at least one car. It’s just a lifestyle thing.

So we punted Harris Green from passing under the previous council, which it would have, because of MMHI. MMHI is now admittedly a dud for housing supply. And now the new council tried to make a name for itself, with the councillor who introduced the death blow amendment saying yesterday that Harris Green should have come before this council if we could walk back time.

And don’t forget about Langford!

The take away from all of this is that it could scare away other applicants. If council can single handedly erode four years of planning, who wants to take that risk? Coleman wasn’t mincing words yesterday when he said this sends the wrong message.
