>>>a six-storey wood frame "tower"<<<
I suspect the term "tower" differs from city to city ... probably anything over four floors in Hictoria ...

Yeah, Three Point was at Council last week. They were having the Sawyer's rental agreement legally enshrined so that it can't be flipped into condos in the future or something to that effect.

Thanks for the clarification!

There was an excavator in the back empty part of this lot yesterday. Looks like it just smoothed out the ground pretty much.

I really love the large windows.

I'm ok with 6 story wood out in the suburbs, but downtown? I know there's a lot of people out there in the construction world still not sold on 6 story wood frame, both it's safety and it's economics.

They've been doing work for quite a while (past few weeks) out back here, and have had the portable crane in and out for the last bit. Work is really picking up in the last few days.
All of it has been on the white building next to the one with all the Sawyer signage on it. Mostly on the roof and gutting the interior it looks like. So is that work actually part of the Sawyer project? For some reason I always thought it was just the smaller brown building with the empty back area, but this is both buildings here?

No, that's a separate project. The Sawyer project will see a midrise residential building behind the old Sawyer.

Don't know if this already has a thread so I apologize in advance if that is the case.
This was approved last week according to the TC.
"One of the developers of a planned 59-unit rental apartment building in the 800 block of Fort Street said the project will create more vitality in the area and predicts residents will support local businesses.
“We really think it will be a beneficial thing,” Ian Laing said Wednesday. “We think it will help with some of the commercial vacancies and make it a more active street.”
Victoria council approved the plan last week for 840 Fort St., which includes an agreement with the city to keep all the residential units as rental housing in perpetuity, said Laing, who has spent 17 years in the rental sector."

Strange. I thought this had already been approved.
Deja vu indeed. The article linked above is from 2015, not 2016. Not to worry viccity, it normally takes me 6 months to finally get accustomed to the new year!
