The Sawyer's Sewing building along the 800-block of Fort Street will soon be remediated as part of a six-storey purpose-built rental development. Plans for redeveloping the site have come and gone over the span of a decade. The latest design incarnation is expected to get underway later this year.

I’m hopeful that the current development team will bring this project to completion.

Just to recap:

This is the October 2009 Hillel architecture redesign which was a slight tweaking of the May 2009 design:

The architect last I heard was Number TEN Architectural Group.

The developer has placed new signage announcing the development on the front of the property.

So they're not going to develop the back of the property.  :P

The sidewalk on the north side of the street, along with the two-way bike facility, will be closed in the construction area.

11 years to get a 6-floor building started. That's just nuts.

Preserving that frontage is a good move on Fort Street. I hope the blend between old and new will work well.

Don't be so sure.

NYC built the empire state building in 13 months; it took this town over a decade to just fuss about and finally approve a 6-floor speed bump. Unreal. And "typical". That said its a nice looking little structure that should contribute to the ongoing process of helping revive a Fort Street that was becoming pretty ho-hum. Nice.
