Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar, etc) solo show last night at the Rickshaw. Masked and seated event at the request of the artist. East Hastings has gotten a lot worse in the last two years!

Off to Plants and Animals at Lucky Bar tonight. See you there!

Bet you’d never think a theatre in Sidney would be stealing high profile shows from downtown Vic.

I think you'll find that the Mary Winspear takes a financial stake in her shows (as it does in many of the shows they present).

Most of the rest of her Canadian tour seems to be promoted by Live Nation, but here on the Island she seems to have chosen to self-present or co-present in smaller venues.

Speaking of which, how is the new casino theatre working out? Even before COVID there wasn’t much going on there.

Know it all.

Renaissance man/polymath Grant Lawrence is doing a small westcoast tour promoting his new book and bringing a bunch of local musicians along for the ride.  I bet these are going to be a great time, Wish I could go to one!

Likely starting to fill up with slot machines by now, it certainly failed in the entertainment department.

Always worth remembering that the picture below is what's being misrepresented as a "theatre".

The drinks on the tables imply table service before, and during the show.

The wait staff has to see to serve drinks, receive payment, clear tables, etc.

From day #1 it's been a banquet room, certainly not a "theatre".

There are bars with less lighting than that place!

Table staff can see just fine in entertainment venues everywhere else.

The band in that picture is just setting up right? Maybe they dim the lights when they bust into their rendition of “Summertime”.

But then Spy says waiters will trip and fall.

We’ll need some volunteers to go in and investigate this one.

The Flame, I Want You To Want Me, Dream Police, and Surrender were played well, but they are recognizable hits with decades of FM radio spins to their credit. They were expected to be highlights, and offered the only takeaways of the night for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers.

ZZ Top is in the enviable position of having dozens of legitimate hits, which makes comparisons between them and Cheap Trick unfair.

There’s a reason they were the headliners, and they proved it during a strong opening section that included Gimme All Your Lovin', I Thank You and Got Me Under Pressure.

By the time the group closed out the night with Legs, Tube Snake Boogie. and La Grange, it felt like the ’70s and ’80s were alive and well.

Attendance was reported as 4,200.

News Alert: Country music star Naomi Judd dies

Country music legend Naomi Judd -- one half of the duo The Judds -- has died, her daughter Ashley Judd announced Saturday.

"Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered," Ashley Judd tweeted. Ashley Judd's publicist verified the statement to CNN.

Died of mental illness eh?

She wrote a book about being profoundly depressed for years.
Depression and suicide are a chronic, tragic, and all too frequent occurrence.
