The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has officially announced this year's inductees: Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine, and the Spinners will join the class of 2023 in the Performer category.
Part of the frustration is that the process isn't the most transparent in the world. Yet Rock & Roll Hall of Fame CEO Greg Harris saw fit to provide a bit of clarity last week.
During a Q&A session at the City Club of Cleveland on Friday, Harris was asked how artists are inducted into the Rock Hall. His answer was pretty detailed.
Harris said there is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominating Committee (which isn't news) that consists of "roughly 24 people" (which kind of is news). The members of the committee are supposed to remain top secret to prevent artists from lobbying them.
Regardless, Harris says each member of the committee gets to nominate two artists for induction, bringing the total to around 50, give or take. An artist is eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first official recording.
The committee then has an open discussion behind closed doors about those artists, narrowing the list down 15 nominees. You know the rest. According to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's website:
"Ballots are then sent to more than 600 historians, members of the music industry and artists--including every living Rock Hall inductee--and the five performers receiving the most votes become that year's induction class."
Since 2012, the voting process has also included a fan vote with the top-five vote-getters comprising one ballot that is thrown into the mix. Each of the past four top acts in the fan poll has been inducted.

It's always going to be subjective. It doesn't have metrics like sport, unless you just choose sales (which might make sense, actually). But the Academy Award winner is rarely the box office champion, you know how artist-types work.

I hear nothing but excellent things about the GnR live show these days, which comes as a surprise! I was able to see AiC close their last tour in Seattle before Covid. City and Colour opened. Excellent combo, but the crowd was a little confused.

We're off to see Depeche Mode in November; can't wait, I last saw them play at the Pacific Coliseum in 1990 when I was living there. It'll be strange and a bit sad not to see Andy Fletcher up on stage with the band

Good on you ASE. I’ve been watching some YouTube footage from this tour. It’s well received.

Tickets to the Victoria show are expected to sell-out quickly: Not only are performances of any kind at the Blanshard Street arena rare these days — Adams’s upcoming concert is just one of two music events on the venue’s 2023 calendar — the Summer of 69 hitmaker is one of the biggest stars Canada has ever produced. His robust career totals include five No. 1 albums in Canada, 63 Juno Award nominations, and nearly 100 millions records sold worldwide.
Adams last performed at the arena in 2018, delivering a two-hour performance that drew a rare five-star review in the Times Colonist.

The Adams concert at SOF will be a winner.
You'll rarely attend a concert where you'll hear more huge hits, played by a razor sharp band giving their 110% through the entire concert.
Adams last SOF concert was fantastic, and his solo acoustic concert at the McPherson Playhouse, which featured a guest appearance on a couple of numbers by long time songwriting partner Jim Vallance, was one of the best I've ever seen.

Since I'm not shy and don't mind being Grinch when the occasion warrants , I'll just simply say here I am in no shape or way a Bryan Adams fan. Like....ever. Ditto for the Tragically Hip (and yes I know not being a Hip fanboy is akin to being sacrilegious in certain parts of the country especially southern Ontario, but there you have it). But for those going to the BA concert do enjoy yourselves *. I'll show myself out now......
* TWO concerts at SOF this year....that's it - really?
