My teenagers can’t get enough of lynyrd skynard, CCR, Rick astley, and even backstreet boys. It’s a weird time to be alive.

Good for them! With all the big name female singers today my daughter's favorite by a long shot - proving she has outstanding taste - is Sade. Who also happens to be one my favorite all time artists.

Have seen her twice inlcuding in the highly acclaimed 2011 tour where I caught her in San Diego. Hands down the best concert from a production and sound standpoint I've ever seen. And I would happily pay Taylor Swift-esq price to see Sade again. I would not pay a Taylor Swift-esq price to see Taylor Swift.

When I need to get my Sade fix I'll occasionally fire up this clip from that San Diego show. Her band - the sax player, percussionist, backing vocalists - absolutely kicked supreme ass in this show, they and her were flawless live:

Speaking of Sade, I just got an invite to see Deftones on the 22nd. Sure to be a grand performance.

Nickelback is ready to rock Laketown Amphitheatre

With an astonishing 15,000 tickets sold, the concert has set the record for the largest paid concert attendance in Vancouver Island history.

The one-off nature of the Nickelback event resulted in a more detailed traffic plan from organizers, and an increase in box office staff to expedite the ticket-scanning process. “Obviously, with that many people, there are bound to be some line-ups,” Hann said. “But we want it to be as seamless as possible. Knowing that we don’t have to sell any tickets, we can just focus on servicing all the areas.”

The fact the event is sold-out has not reduced box office inquiries, Hann said. But he wants to send a clear message to Nickelback fans coming to the event without tickets or camping passes in hand. “If you do not have a ticket, don’t come. There is nothing for sale.”

The Trans-Canada Highway heading from Victoria to Lake Cowichan was already congested by noon today, with bumper-to-bumper traffic. With the number of cars travelling to the event, congestion wasn’t expected to dissipate until late afternoon.

[...]

“After the concert, it will only be for festival traffic,” Hann said. “People will be going straight through any stop signs, and that will be managed by our traffic control. That way we can turn the tap open and let people pour out, as opposed to being caught with other vehicle traffic.”

[...]

There was also an expanded shuttle service taking guests by bus to and from Duncan, Nanaimo, Lake Cowichan and Youbou, to help mitigate congestion during arrival and departure periods. “Well over 1,000 shuttle passes have been sold, which is great, because it keeps people off the roads.”

Youbou Road will be closed for non-local and non-concert exiting traffic between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Detailed planning is key, as organizers expect to stage more single-day events by top-tier acts in the years ahead. “This is the model we want to take moving forward, so the people of Vancouver Island don’t have to travel to Vancouver and pay for hotels and ferries for their events, and see these kinds of artists in their backyard,” Hann said.

15,000 pack Laketown for a fiery Nickelback show

It was a propane-fueled, pyrotechnic performance that featured nearly all their hits.

Nickelback arrived on site around 7:30 p.m. for their 10 p.m. show. They last performed on Vancouver Island 20 years ago.

They made up for their long absence with was a propane-fueled, pyrotechnic performance that featured nearly all their hits. That was a pro move by the band, which had a faithful assembly before it, the largest paid concert attendance in Vancouver Island history. The philosophy was more flames, more game.

The evening was a big moment for a local rock singer.

“It’s a pretty insane feeling, getting off stage to a phone call from Nickelback’s tour manager,” said Nevil Meyer, frontman for Victoria’s Trophy Dad, who performed at Laketown on Friday night.

Meyer had staged a campaign to get Nickelback to attend his performance, which they did not. Instead, he was asked to perform with the band during its rendition of Rockstar.

“This was a pretty surreal experience that doesn’t come around too often, so you gotta make the most of it,” Meyer said.

Well, that's cool that guy was able to go up on stage with them.

The Alberta government has greenlit a major worship event featuring American Christian rock musician Sean Feucht on the Legislative Assembly of Alberta’s grounds in Edmonton.

This decision goes against the pattern of cancellations and anti-Christian censorship witnessed in other parts of Canada.

The “Revive in ’25 – Let Us Worship” gathering is set to rock the Alberta Legislature grounds on August 22.

According to a spokesperson from the Alberta Ministry of Infrastructure, this decision is all about upholding the basic rights of Canadians.

“Alberta is committed to supporting and respecting everyone’s right to free speech. We have a duty to uphold these rights and freedoms, regardless of an individual’s religious or political beliefs. The Government of Alberta does not engage in shutting down or censoring law-abiding events,” said the spokesperson in an emailed statement.

Donations to Sean Feucht groups via B.C.-based charity add to financial transparency concerns raised in Canada

Former Feucht followers ask Canadians to reflect before donating to ministry

"The attempt to censor has backfired in a way that's … brought him attention that $1 million in advertising would have never brought him," said James Turk, director of the Centre for Free Expression at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Have they not figured that out yet?

Cancel culture as a thing died in 2021. Now it’s all free advertising and a huge opportunity for content creation in support of the protested.

CBC really have a bee 🐝 in their collective bonnets over this previously unhead-of guy.

There are nearly 100,000 charities in Canada. This is the one they choose to examine. Although you go through the article looking for any out of sort and there is none.

A large crowd gathered Saturday evening for controversial Christian musician and activist Sean Feucht’s concert, held on private property in the Joe Rich area after the City of West Kelowna cancelled his previously planned event just days before.
Although Castanet was not permitted at the free, public event, numerous vehicles and attendees were visible at the location at 11700 Greystokes Road, where the event took place between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
The concert was hosted by Burn 24-7, a global worship and prayer movement founded by Feucht in the early 2000s. The organization is known for organizing extended worship gatherings called “burns,” which often include hours of live music, prayer, and intercession.
Speaking on behalf of Burn 24-7, Sheldon Woodcock explained why media were not allowed to attend.
"[It] was at the owner’s request and we gotta honour that,” said Woodcock. “I think because it is generally not fair coverage. It has been really difficult for Sean and his team to come and just worship with people who want to worship in Canada and there has been a lot of negative coverage that has caused a lot of problems for him and his team."
The City of West Kelowna cancelled Feucht’s Aug. 23 concert citing safety and logistical concerns, anticipating crowds of up to 2,000 attendees and 1,000 protesters. Feucht publicly criticized the decision, saying during Saturday’s event:

https://www.castanet...te-venue-change

lol. His Edmonton concert had 1,000 fans and 50-100 protesters. I doubt Kelowna of all places was going to get 1,000 protestors.

I was fortunate to be the recipient of a last minute extra ticket to see Deftones play at Rogers arena on Friday, and the boys were in top form musically and physically. Such a great performance and they seemed surprised at the size of the crowd. Full house, I couldn’t see an empty seat. Chino looks and sounds like a million bucks.

These guys are all in there early or mid 50’s now and a good chunk of the crowd was in the same range. They’ve been around a while and have a pretty decent fan base, but blew up on tiktok a couple of years ago. The under 25 crowd was wildly over represented and a whole lot of under 20’s there, which I don’t usually see at the concerts I attend. Plenty of dads with their teen kids.

Lovely to see the elder goths and emo’s passing the torch to a new generation as well.

Openers were Babarians of California (of AWOLNATION) and duo Phantogram, who just played at Phillips a couple of weeks ago.

Happy hour and dinner at Joe Fortes, always worth a stop. Always such great service and food.
