I just read that MJ’s estate has earned more than 3.5B since his death. His daughter has basically the equivalent of unlimited money - very tough for an addict to manage that. I’m very impressed she got sober at all.
Yes.

Quick rip over to the big island to take in Sloan - and it was amazing!
Sold out house, rarely have I seen the floor so packed, everyone having a great time. No opener, as it often is with them, but they did two full sets plus an encore, 27 songs and some great video production over 2 1/2 hours. Some deep cuts, some classics and some newer stuff but the crowd wants what the crowd wants especially those of us of a certain age.
Much needed redemption from the last show at the Winspear in Sidney which was a terrible venue for them.

All you Wilco fans out there, Jeff Tweedy has expanded the tour for his recent solo album Twilight Override. April 4 at the Commodore and then April 5 here at the Royal. I'm surprised he would be able to sell enough tickets here to warrant such a large venue the day after a Vancouver show but the Royal is better for this anyways.
I see Wilco and Billy Bragg are doing the Mermaid Ave songs at Solid Sound in North Adams, Mass. this summer as well. That would be something to see, and what a location.
Presale Wednesday (tomorrow) at 10 am, password is LOUREED

See you there!

Dave Chappelle, Rogers arena Dec 7, tickets went live today at noon.
No phone policy in place.
I went to one of those. I was able to rip the bag open after a half an hour working on it. It's not excatly Kevlar. I left the bag on a seat in a row behind me.

Oh look, a show at the Coda. Victoria resident and Bedouin Soundclash frontman Jay Malinowski and friends will be performing for a fundraiser on December 3. I see his wife will be playing as well.

The Goo Goo Dolls are headed back on the road, and they’ll be kicking off their newly announced 2026 Canadian tour in B.C.’s capital.
The multi-platinum alt-rock band, famous for iconic ’90s songs like Iris and Slide, revealed Monday that they’re joining forces once again with Dashboard Confessional for a coast-to-coast tour next spring.
The tour opens at Victoria’s Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Thursday, March 19, 2026, before hitting 13 more cities across the country.

I'd say I know four songs.
Iris
Slide
Name
Black Balloon
And probably a few others that sound the same as above.
These songs are easy to sing along to.

You know Iris (1998), at the very least. You just might never have known the song name.

Coming up next iconic singer-songwriter Johnny Rzeznik shares the story of one of the biggest songs in history: Iris. He was going through one of the worst periods of his live. Johnny was in the middle of a heartbreaking divorce. He had a horrible case of writer’s block and he was so low he was on the verge of quitting his own band, the Goo Goo Dolls. He felt hopeless. So he left his home in New York and ran away to Los Angeles to hide away from it all, holding up in a hotel. Just then a major film, City of Angels, recruited Rzeznik to write a song for the soundtrack and that's when inspiration struck. He felt the song Iris coming through him when he broke 2 strings on his guitar. He just kept playing through the adversity because he knew he had something special. When it was done, Johnny knew he just written a smash… it was touched by a higher power especially when he recorded it. Iris would become one of the biggest songs ever and save his career and his life.
Up next this legend shares the story.

Never was much of a fan but he’s probably making money off this song. It was huge.
Ya, he played it with Avril, played it with Swift.
I'm sure it played at lots of weddings!

“We got to see what it was really like to be a priority at a big record label. And we worked — hard, like 20 hours a day of promoting Goo Goo Dolls and being out there, going to six, eight radio stations in a day, sometimes,” Takac told Billboard.
“I don’t know if I could do that amount of work. It doesn’t feel like 30 years ago; it feels like another lifetime, if that makes any sense.”
The band is no longer putting in that amount of work, but they’ve still managed to attract new audiences in recent years thanks to their 1998 hit “Iris” being featured in Deadpool & Wolverine and 2025 Stagecoach performance.
During their conversation with Billboard, Takac confessed that they “haven’t seen numbers like this probably ever in [their] career.”
“We’ve got young kids coming out to our shows; that didn’t happen 10 years ago, I will tell you that much. There’s so many kids at these shows now,” he said, before joking, “Oddly, a Goo Goo Dolls show has become more family-friendly than, like, a Sabrina Carpenter show.”

Hmm, not familiar to me. I know lots of songs but I usually don't know who is singing them or the name of the song.
