Considering that ASL broadcasts are intended only for the deaf, and further considering that you have to access CBC-ASL services quite specifically (they have nothing to do with the CBC main feed), why would anybody even care?

Because it costs the taxpayers money.

Way too much sign language interpretation is going on on television news feeds.

Turn the closed captions on for fxxx sake.

ASL and closed captioning are two very different things.

Thankfully, first-world countries solicit from the hearing impaired (and profoundly deaf) what their needs are, and then strive to provide for those needs.

Although the able-bodied and healthy are always welcome to their personal opinions (it's a free country after all), it's appropriate that those opinions rarely (if ever) have any noticeable impact the needs of those much less fortunate.

A quick trip over to the Big Island yesterday to take in Jeff Tweedy at the Royal, nearing the end of the 'Twilight Override' tour, his most recent 3 disc album.  Three years ago to the day I was seeing him in Wilco, night one of their residency in Iceland.

I am not the biggest solo Tweedy fan, but try not to miss an opportunity to see him play.  Definitely one of my all time favourite songwriters and performers, so I'm working through the solo catalogue again to see what I'm missing.  One thing I did not miss noticing was the cavalcade of guitars he brings with on tour - must have a trailer just for those.  I counted 7 on stage, and then as the songs went on I realized there was another entire cabinet off stage he was drawing from.  Along with him performing in the band are his two sons, and three other friends from Chicago, one of whom was the opener.  As he was introducing the band, he quipped that the entire band came from 3 houses within walking distance in Chicago.

On this tour they have been playing one or two songs inspired by the city they are in.  Seatlle, "In Bloom" by Nirvana, Vancouver was "Raise a Little Hell" by Trooper. For Victoria they did "Victoria" by the Kinks and, get this, "Two Lips, Two Lungs and One Tongue" by Victoria hardcore punk legends NoMeansNo.  Someone in the crowd knew, but I sure would't have guessed that was the one they'd pick.

Canadian artists Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will be among a star-studded lineup of performers at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Toronto in June.

FIFA has announced separate opening ceremonies in each of the three host countries this year.

The Canadian opening ceremony is set for June 12 at BMO Field, before Canada kicks off its tournament against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Other Canadian stars in the lineup include Jessie Reyez, Alessia Cara and William Prince.

Katy Perry headlines the U.S. opening ceremony on June 12 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., near Los Angeles, before the Americans face Paraguay.

Singers Danny Ocean and Belinda, as well as the band Mana, will be among the performers at a ceremony at Mexico City's Azteca Stadium on June 11 ahead of a match between Mexico and South Africa.

Well as usual, Dallas did not disappoint. There was a little technical problem with one of his guitars on the first song, swapped it out and carried on.

The full setlist hasn’t been posted yet but he played probably 18 songs from all corners of his discography - including his cover of Rain When I Die. Here is a link to his performance of this song when Alice in Chains was honoured by the MoPop in Seattle a few years back. He really does have an amazing voice.

We stayed at the Union Club, which we were underdressed for so did not partake of any amenities. The room could use a refresh. Dated fixtures and some obvious wear marks that I wouldn’t not have expected, and not enough linens in the room either.

I wonder how these union clubs are doing these days. The younger generations aren’t exactly into those sorts of clubs.

Know it all.

They were selling themselves to a multi generational group while I was there. I have a connection to some members, and it sounds sort of like a timeshare. You save some money on rooms, get to use the facilities, and enjoy benefits at similar institutions while abroad. Plus networking and meeting rooms.

No idea what it costs. Few grand a yesr?

How did you book it? Via Expedia etc.?

Places like this like that platform, as they can fill rooms without a long presence of their own online. They can just disappear when they don’t need the exposure.

Don't forget J.D. Roberts: https://en.wikipedia...ts_(journalist)

Also Michael Williams (in two of the photos above): https://en.wikipedia...TV_personality)

The initial D.J. group was J.D. Roberts, Christopher Ward, and Michael Williams on an 8 hour loop that repeated 3 times every 24 hours.

They made a documentary about MuchMusic but it got into all kinds of copyright trouble due to the music clips.

https://en.wikipedia...eet_West_(film)

The director of 299 Queen Street West, a documentary that tells the story of beloved Canadian TV station MuchMusic, says the future of his film is uncertain.

Director Sean Menard says his legal team has received correspondence from Universal Music Canada (UMC) that threatened a possible cease and desist against the documentary, which features audio and video clips from around 80 musicians, including many Universal artists.

By standard measures, the film has been a success: over 2,000 people came out to Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall on Sept. 22 to see the movie. With the permission of Bell Media, now the parent company of Much, the documentary uses archival footage to tell the story of the channel’s inception in the ‘80s and its heyday in the ‘90s and 2000s.

In its heyday, my TV was tuned into MuchMusic every single time it was turned on - I rarely (if ever) changed the channel.

MuchMusic was, in so many ways, truly a revolutionary watch on cable TV.

I certainly couldn't get enough of it!

I'd not been aware of that documentary film, it's definitely something I'd like to see.

The folks we were with, their inlaws are members. I don’t know how they did it. I’d rather stay at the Chateau Vic.
