Forgotten Tureen Causes Consternation For Returning Dishwasher

TRAVIS PATERSON | Jan. 2, 2019 10:30 a.m. | COMMUNITY

University of Victoria cafeteria services worker Barb Plonk expressed frustration after returning to work January 2 that the previous shift failed to clean a chowder tureen adequately, causing unnecessary extra work.

The long-time employee, whose duties include dishwashing and sanitation supervision in the campus' busy cafeteria came to work Wednesday morning to find a chowder pot used to make a batch of creamy clam goodness on New Years' Eve had been left sitting empty and unwashed for two full days.

Plonk said that if the day shift had simply left it soaking in soapy water overnight, "it wouldn't have been such a frigging pain to scrub. It took me like most of a frigging hour to clean".

UVic spokesperson Paul Marck would not comment, claiming this was an internal personnel issue.

The heavy snowfall is having a serious impact on the delivery of the Times Colonist today.
No papers will be delivered to the West Shore, Sooke or Esquimalt because the truck could not reach the distribution centre.

keri coles has had a tragic cancer diagnosis

Keri Coles, who is sunshine in human form, has recently received a devastating diagnosis at 41 years of age. For those connected to her, near and far, this is an incomprehensible turn of events. In her words, via Facebook:

"We are no longer moving to Europe to pursue my master’s degree. I have just been diagnosed with advanced metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Basically, non-smoker’s lung cancer that has spread and is not curable.

My oncologist said the average life expectancy for people in my condition is 6 months without treatment and 1.5 years with treatment.

There is a small 10 per cent chance of responding well to treatment and surviving 5 years and beyond.
