According to Boulevard, this 1898 property is to be restored.

Good thing too because this is what it used to look like.

More pics here.

Thank god. I've mourned for that house for years (and its unfortunate neighbours). I believe the picture above shows what is now the back of the house, as what was the rear of the house fronts Albert Street.

Hard to believe it is the same house.

You're right! Here's a view of the south side of the house - http://maps.google.c...9,,2,-3.97&z=19

I wonder to what degree the decoration on the house will be restored. From my understanding, many Victorian style houses fell into disrepair partly from the elaborateness of their wooden ornamentation. There's just too much of it to maintain!

I really hope they restore the spires. So many of our Victorian buildings had huge ornamental or even functional spires and towers. It's funny how much height we've lost in the last century and then forbid height claiming historical sensitivities.

You can get a better view from Bing of the house.

There are several pictures on the Hallmark Society website of the old grand dame over the years...

Fantastic restoration. Too bad the spires were removed from the roof though.

While generally I am a heritage purist, I think the spires were a bit over the top. I like what they've done. I'm wondering, since the former front facade was in the middle of the block, sort of facing the back of the house in front of it, can you now see the entire facade?

Though it is private property, there's nothing stopping someone from going around to the south side of the building to see the original front facade. There's a parking lot back there.

The photo on the right must have been from the 50's. We had one of those exact antennas when we got our first TV.

Looks like it lost the spires a long time ago then. Regardless, still a great looking restoration. I wonder what it looks like inside.
