I always go to the check-outs in the grocery section when that is all I am buying and I've never had an issue with my items being bagged. Maybe they just like me.

Wal-Mart just launched grocery delivery nationwide today, including at the two Victoria-area stores:

Any update on the Walmart at Hillside rumour? The Citified article had them opening by the end of 2019, which seems...unlikely...

I went on Friday.  For a store trying to position itself as the lovechild of Daiso/Oomono, Uniqlo and Muji, it fails.  They've got some interesting stuff, and I grabbed a silicone oven mitt for half the price that Walmart was charging, but I don't think I'd go back for anything other than asian snacks.

^Are you saying it's too Japanese or not Japanese enough?

I went to one in West Ed Mall and it was pretty disappointing. Aside from the snacks there was really nothing there I couldn't find elsewhere for probably cheaper.

It's too much category variety but not enough product variety.  If I want to buy underwear, a water bottle, a computer keyboard, a chopstick/spoon bento utensil set, and a face mask, I can get all of those outside the Miniso in the massive Walmart that it sits in.  (well, maybe not the utensil set.)

My biggest takeaway was that there's no need for a wall of water bottles and vacuum flasks, or two shelving unit faces devoted to strainer-in-a-bowls, plus a third face for nested measuring spoons that range up to a 1cup capacity.

I'm happy with the purchases that I made, but I don't think I'd go to Walmart just to visit Miniso.  I'd pop in to Miniso while I'm shopping at Walmart though, which is probably the marketing strategy.

I went into a Miniso in Marrakesh yesterday, took about 30 seconds to decide they had nothing I needed.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

I like their licensed stuff, they had a moomin collection last year. Love Moomin. Moomin is really popular in Japan, they have Moomin Cafes and a Moomin Theme Park.

I like their stationary and pens, cheaper than Muji and pretty similiar. Oh and black cotton buds, easily found in Japan, hard to find here just daiso and Muji really.

does anyone know Hema from the Netherlands?

They have also made a deal with walmart to have stores inside. They look fun, all over Europe and the Middle East and they want to enter into Canada and North America now.

HEMA is going to expand to the United States and Canada. Starting this summer, US customers will be able to purchase HEMA household products through Walmart.com, the online platform of the world's largest retailer. In the autumn, through a local partner in Canada, HEMA will open both standalone stores and shop-in-shops in Walmart's largest stores.

Must be a slow news day around Citified offices.  Next you'll report on that Sooke Tim Horton's again

even if i'm wiling to concede that walmart is coming to hillside (i'll wait to see what the tc says) i'm still taking bets on if it will open before the wade completes.

Much depends on whether or not Walmart becomes the new supplier of windows for The Wade.

Honest question. Was this article put out to double down on Citified assertions that Walmart is the tenant, or because additional confirmation has come to light. Mike?

^The part of the article that explains why the denials are false seems to have been omitted.

Yes, we’ve learned much more about this over the last few months.

From the piece: “Today the Sears space is in the early stages of significant renovations that will move into full swing this winter ahead of tenant improvements planned by Walmart.”

Work is starting on the reno, which will be quite extensive. The space needs quite a lot of TLC. As you can imagine, negotiations with Canadian Tire and Thrifty’s have also taken some time.

Know it all.
