Ad blockers are a natural evolution in advertising. As they become more common, internet businesses like video bloggers, regular bloggers, and forums will need to adapt the way they bring in revenue. They can implement things like affiliate links or selling your own products; t-shirts, stickers, paid subscription services.

I don't believe there is any use fighting ad blockers or complaining about them, asking people not to use ad blockers isn't any better than begging for donations. I also think this is all for the better, the trend in advertising has been continuously better and better targeting of consumer niches. Advertising is becoming more focused and more tailored to providing information and value before selling a product. Like some of you said, cookie ads aren't always effective, they will offer you products you already have. Advertising is shifting away from that towards feeding people into value driven sales funnels. These are ads that are giving the consumer what they want. On this forum, we need to come up with ways to generate revenue besides browser cookies.

You could have special forum sections for discussion by "premium" paid users, you could have sponsored topics by businesses, the forum could evolve into a media channel where users can get the news and discuss it in the forums. There will have to be new ways to monetize, because the ad blockers aren't going away.

Some more geographic liberties being taken, this time by the Westbay Quay developers.

Wouldn't this be more accurate?

It seems calling oneself Victoria is fine when it comes to advertising, but not so much when it comes to politics. <_<

No matter what you say, put Victoria on the mailing address and it's perfectly fine. It IS greater Victoria either way.  I live in Saanich, but if people other than locals ask where I live, I say Victoria... pretty obvious why.

So then amalgamation should be a slam-dunk.

More likely, it makes some people care even less. They can 'say' they live in Victoria, and even use it as a mailing address, and yet don't have to deal with a lot of the drama that is the CoV.

Not once my movement to restrict the usage of "Victoria" to its legal residents takes hold.

I remember someone telling me the District of Saanich is supposed to use Victoria in all addressing, as it is a district municipality. That's why the municipal hall is addressed as 770 Vernon Ave, Victoria, BC.

Everything in the CRD except Sooke and (I think?) Sidney use Victoria in mailing addresses.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

District Municipality of Central Saanich uses Saanichton and Brentwood Bay

District Municipality of North Saanich uses North Saanich

Town of Sidney uses Sidney

District Municipality of Sooke uses Sooke

So obviously it's not a district municipality thing as I thought, but just municipalities being able to set their own place name I guess.

It's all to do with Canada post and where the original mail sorting facilities were.
