haha. I live 5 minutes away from one now and I go at least once a week, mostly to pick up things I need like light bulbs, batteries, chocolate :P and of course the as-is.

The IKEA in Coquitlam and the IKEA in Richmond have both opened warehouses in other buildings not too far from their main store where customers pick up large items like couches etc. And both stores are huge.

The old Sears location would be perfect fit for an Ikea.

IF it ever happened it would be Westshore or Nanaimo. And that's a big 'if'

Isn't that "guaranteed" to become the next Walmart in the region?

Dunno maybe its because I lived in YVR on two different occasions from the late 80's to the early 00's and became generally indifferent to the subject, but is there really all that much buzz about an IKEA 'yes or no' in Victoria? Do people here really care one way or the other? I went all of twice over the nearly 9 years I lived over there and certainly haven't felt like I'm missing anything in the seventeen years since I moved back.

it's great for if you're moving somewhere on your own for the first time as they have almost everything you might need and the food's pretty good but I don't think I'd go very often if there was a local one.

Ugh. Do we really need a 3rd Walmart in the area?

It would be a very small Ikea... Hillside lists the space as 148,803 sq. ft. The Richmond Ikea is 348,212 sq. ft. The showroom and restaurant are 112,375 sq. ft., and the market hall and warehouse are 216,236 sq. ft.

That said, smaller Ikeas do exist. I remember going to one in Singapore when I moved there, and it was very compact but still what could be considered "full service," i.e. you were able to walk out with your purchases rather than pre-order for delivery.

looks like this local company is still doing mainland ikea (and other store) runs.  pick-up here has not put them out of business.

Don’t think they work in a regular kitchen.

I've used them multiple times. Have to pay a fee for the service on top of the cost of the items, but it's still cheaper than paying to drive on the ferry, to Richmond, and back again.

I have used add2cart as well and I was very pleased with the service. We didn't pay extra to have them set up the couches we bought for the family room downstairs but it is nice that they offer that service as well. They also shop at Crate and Barrel and Pottery Barn too.

Yes, we've used the fruGals for this purpose and it was well worth it. $100 on top of a $1000 couch but they brought it to our door, it was great.

(Edit: didn't realize add2cart took over the frugals clientele!)

what if we buy temporary swedish meatball production franchise rights from ikea.  open it in the old sears in a bit walmart doesn't need.  operate it with skip the dishes only using the back door so mike can't see them.  is todd in a 10-minute radius for delivery?
