Rather than rising sea levels, this is dropping lake levels. These guys do a Lake Mead update every week or so, going out on the water. Pretty crazy stuff:

https://youtu.be/NCBG_aVkv4s

Water level is already too low for most of the boat launches, formerly waterfront resort properties are hundred plus feet from the water now, water is below 2 of the intake towers, list goes on

I watched that a couple of days ago.  My first thought was... they let people drive their trucks into the drinking water supply?

Quality Water for People and Wildlife

Lake Mead provides drinking water for more than 25 million people and first-rate water-based recreation for more than eight million people each year, including an average of 250,240 annual angler use days of recreational sport fishing. The lakes provide additional critical habitat for the federally listed endangered razorback sucker as well as key habitats along the Pacific flyway for shorebirds and other waterfowl. Lake Mead, with a surface area of 157,900 acres (at full pool) and a 29-million-acre-feet storage capacity, is the largest reservoir in North America. Lake Mohave with 26,500 acres of surface area provides consistent volume of water to meet downstream delivery.

It's a huge reservoir, that's for sure (biggest in the US).

The even bigger story, though, is how much lower the Colorado River flows nowadays. That's what primarily feeds 'Lake' Mead via the Hoover Dam.

Heatwave: National emergency declared after UK's first red extreme heat warning

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-62177458

A national emergency has been declared after a red extreme heat warning was issued for the first time, as temperatures could hit 40C (104F).

The Met Office's highest warning covers an area including London, Manchester and York on Monday and Tuesday.

It means there is a risk to life and daily routines will need to change.

Speed restrictions are likely on railway lines, some schools will close early and some hospital appointments will be cancelled.

On the roads, gritters are planning to spread sand to reduce melting, and the RAC has warned more drivers will need help as cars overheat.

In more no s**t Sherlock advice it warns you should “walk in the shade and wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-coloured cotton clothes”, while your hat should be “wide-brimmed, to reduce exposure to the face, eyes, head and neck”.

We are further instructed “to avoid extreme physical exertion”, so that’s a no to any imitations of Love Island on the beach or in the bedroom.

Alcohol, tea and coffee are also to be avoided in this crisis.

“We’re all doomed” was the cry of Private James Frazer in Dad’s Army and the same bleak spirit infuses official advice.

“Even during a relatively cool summer, one in five homes is likely to overheat,” says the Agency.

Some of the instructions are so absurd that they seem to have been designed for congenital idiots.

“Turn off central heating,” says one sentence.

“Take a break from the heat by moving to a cooler room,” says another.

Well blow me down with an industrial fan.

It is amazing that we ever won a World War or built the largest empire the planet has ever seen, much of its territory in far hotter climes than anything currently being experienced in Britain.

The bureaucrats are determined to treat us like children, where anything enjoyable is treated as a threat.

So, when it comes to swimming, the Agency declares, “Always wear a buoyancy aid or life jacket for activities on the water” and, “Only enter the water in areas with adequate supervision and rescue cover”

An atmosphere of terror is being wilfully created.

Bureaucratic hysteria

News outlets sternly report that Cobra meetings have been called in Whitehall to discuss whether a National Heatwave Emergency should be declared.

Speed restrictions have been imposed on parts of the rail network and some local authorities warn that bins will not be emptied in the heat.

In my own county of Kent, the director of public health, Dr Anjan Ghosh, said it is “vital people think carefully about what they need to do to protect themselves, their family and particularly vulnerable people from the heat”.

The mood of bureaucratic hysteria is partly a legacy of Covid, when the state became used to controlling our lives in the name of public safety.

Having been given enormous powers and funding during the pandemic, the agencies are keen to flex their muscles once more.

As I have often remarked, a frightened population is more easily controlled than one that is allowed to make decisions for themselves. No government is going to give up this sort of power without a fight.

Sixteen people died from heat-related illness in British Columbia during the summer of 2022’s longest heat wave so far, according to preliminary figures released by the BC Coroners Service.

The total covers the period of July 26 to Aug. 3. The worst day for fatalities was July 29, with five deaths recorded.

Hypothermia or exposure to excessive natural cold was found to be the underlying or contributing cause in 384 deaths between 1998 and 2012. Mean age of decedents was 52 (SD 20.78) years and 73.2% were male. The annual death rate for hypothermia increased with age, ranging from 0.3 per 100 000 population among people aged 1−34 years to 1.6 per 100 000 population among those older than 75 years of age. The highest annual death rate occurred among older males (2.1 per 100 000 population) followed by older females (1.3 per 100 000 population).

Sounds like BC is more in need of a “cold alert system”.

Don’t go out without warm mitts and a toque. Warming centres located near to fire hydrants.

For seniors that can’t afford in-home heating.

It warms my heart (pun intended) to see the TC meeting its daily fear quota.

From the Seattle Times, quote: "Coastal flooding will increase as sea levels rise, and extreme events like hurricanes and storm surges will become more common and more severe. The diversity and numbers of marine fish and wildlife will decline due to warming water, shrinking habitats and dying coral reefs. [...] Local forecasters estimate 1-2 feet of sea-level rise in the Seattle area by 2050, and the Center for Climate Integrity estimates that Washington state will need to build more than 1,600 miles of sea walls at a cost of $24 billion to help deal with rising waters".

Meanwhile what the actual data says is:

The relative sea level trend is 2.07 millimeters/year with a 95% confidence

interval of +/- 0.14 mm/yr based on monthly mean sea level data from
1899 to 2021 which is equivalent to a change of 0.68 feet in 100 years.

"Center for Climate Integrity" what a gloriously mis-named agency.

Washington only has 160 miles of coastline.  Not sure where they are building that 1,600 mile wall.

BC has 100x more coastline, maybe we are in trouble.

haha. I do love that disclaimer. It's not that the sea isn't rising. it's that the land is rising...At EXACTLY the same pace....
