So... what's causing it then?

May says this is a “small taste.”

The 30s dust bowl heat wave was a full lunch, then, I guess.

It doesn't do the climate change alarmists' credibility any favours to jump on every brief heatwave as a portent of things to come. What was their rationale for the cooler than usual spring we had and the considerable snowfall back in February?

That was weather, nothing to do with climate change.

And this heat wave is not weather?

I like when they show all the heat records being broken and they are from 1941, 1937,1982 etc., so it is hardly linear.

So climate change isn’t real? Is that the message here?

Climate changes continually and there is very little we can do about it.

It changed before man was around and it will continue to change when man is gone.

That was not the impression Elizabeth May was making.

Agreed.  Nothing you said is wrong. However the rate of change and the extremes we're seeing is speeding up, which when you consider how humans have chosen where to settle and where to grow their food, it's a problem.

Plus the rate of change and extremes are largely driven by human activity, not a natural phenomenon

We didn't have too many hot days last summer I don't think. Our bedroom is upstairs and I don't recall any unpleasant nights (unlike now!).

Our lawn stayed green all summer, even with minimal watering. Very unusual for our place.

The heat wave has claimed 145 lives in Metro Vancouver alone

Here's a breakdown of the figures we have received from officials:

- Vancouver: 65
- Surrey: 46
- Burnaby: 34

Those are all part of Metro Vancouver in B.C. Additionally, the B.C. coroner service reported 103 deaths more than usual Fri-Mon, but we're not including those.

While a typical day in June sees approximately 400 emergency calls made across Vancouver Island, the past three days have seen a significant jump due to the heatwave.

Between June 26 and 28, Island 911 dispatchers responded to a total of 1,915 calls, roughly 60 per cent higher than the average. Last Saturday saw 608 calls answered and Sunday 574, with Monday the busiest as 733 calls were responded to.

According to service provider E-Comm 9-1-1, the large influx of calls included requests for ambulance service. Given the added caseload, they reminded callers that if they reach an automated voice recording to wait on the line until a respondent can answer.

do you think some people went to bed Monday night then never woke up?

By Tuesday afternoon, Vancouver police said they had been called out to more than 65 sudden deaths since the temperature began spiking on Friday. Twenty of those deaths were reported on Tuesday before 1:45 p.m. PT — a typical day sees just three or four sudden deaths in the city.

I mean some people killed by the heat?

with Monday being the worst day and some cumulative effect I’m sure this will end up much higher.

In the statement, BC Coroners Service said that they would normally receive approximately 130 reports of death over a four-day period, but from Friday, June 25th through 3 p.m. on Monday, June 28th, at least 233 deaths were reported, with numbers anticipated to increase as data continues to be updated.

Nonsense.  There is no meaningful “rate of change” other than the fact the earth has been gradually warming for the last 10,000 years (no doubt due to human campfires for the first 9,500 of those!!!!)  There is plenty of variation within the broader trend - the Roman and Viking warm periods, the Elizabethan mini ice age, etc.  There is also little change in the frequency of extreme weather events if you consider a time period of a century or so.  Not to mention the inconvenient fact that every climate model and apocalyptic prediction issued in the last 50 years has been stupendously wrong.  Try doing a little research instead of parroting uniformed newspaper stories and Facebook posts.
