Mrs ASE and I hit the peninsula farms yesterday; the strawberries are IN and definitely worth the effort and extra $. Over the past couple of years we've routinely hit this place up on Bear Hill Rd - http://www.dansfarm.ca/. We got some gorgeous s-berries there - unsprayed, no pesticides - and wowza what a reminder of what "real" fruit tastes like. More than worth the extra few dollars IMO.

We used to make Oldfield Farms "the standard" in terms of an annual pilgrimage to Saanichton for local fruit and veggies but were told last year that either the kids or grand-kids, can't recall which, of the original owners had decided as of 2017 not to continue farming the land, at least to provide for the public to come and pick their own produce, which really is a shame. Still there are old standby's like Michell's and Gobind Farms among many others so if you're a fresh strawberry fan, now is the time.....

Been ordering in flats from Gobind farms through Sysco. Good price and delivered to my door, but soon we will have the sun kissed island ones that have never seen the inside of a refrigerator.

Our baker put these together for the weekend. White cake (my fave) with those Gobind berries and rose scented cream. Not sure where she got the roses for the syrup from, I didn’t ask. Holy hell they were good.B714CA7D-AD17-41B2-A80E-6B94F3B02425.jpeg

Remind me where I'm visiting to get one of those cakes? Salt Spring, yeah, specifics?

Made a trip out there today and picked some up, wife concurs with your assessment.

Clearly a woman of superior intellect and taste. Enjoy the strawberries - we've already scarfed ours down, lol

We are in Fulford, right at the ferry landing. Cakes are long gone but that crazy baker changes stuff up all the time. This afternoon, my GM brought me a little taster of today’s mocha mousse with a splash of Phillips’ Dino-sour while I was getting ready for my shift. Thanks, I said. I don’t love the plating, but the f&b were on point. I think the Dinosaur is blackberry.

It’s her Monday, not bad I’d say.

OT I had the Gobind strawbs in my Vega shake today.

Matt.
