Better boycott that mom and pop coffee shop on the corner with "Say no to corporations" signs!

Exactly. A corporation is just a vehicle for shared ownership of a legal entity. From mom and pops coffee shop to Starbucks and everything in between.

If your anti corporatist you may as well be anti plumber or anti diner or anti buying anything from pretty much anybody.

I'm sure if you press for clarification it'll just be big corporations.  You know, the ones that employ thousands of people.

And the ones that are widely held by public and private pension funds, and your mutual funds.  That your bank or credit union sold you.

A corporation couldn't just be a type of legal entity that allows for shared ownership by multiple people while also severing liability of the corporation's decision making from it's owners.

Nope, they're the root of all evil in our world. Heaven forbid we promote prosperity and success through hard work and good decision making.

Sorry for using the word gay, I don't have time to type 12,380 acronyms.

^ This, from one of the 12,380 acronyms.

At time I wonder if the fair right has inflatrated the "gay" movement and created some of this unrest. After all the "your a sin" diatribes stopped working.. so maybe destroy from within?

All it takes to uncover who is behind this is to look up the names in that organization.

Know it all.

How would the UVic administration respond if instead of protesting the Pride parade because of "colonialism, racism, corporate capitalism, nationalism, banks, police, and bias towards white, able-bodied, neurotypical, middle-class/upper-class, and cisgender homosexual men" a campus group chose not to take part because of "bias towards Jews, Muslims, women, aboriginals and handicapped people". In my mind you don't end discrimination in one form by substituting another.

The group is making an equity argument, protesting against the participation of people it perceives to have advantages over others in society. I'm with you in agreeing that at the end of the day, ranking people by how oppressed they are probably doesn't serve a purpose other than to foment further division.

But just as they're free to do so, you're free to ignore them (and even disagree).

And free drinks for the Facebook page owner and/or VV members?  ;)

If so, I now know where I need to position myself for the best viewing.

Not exactly.  We just asked for a bit of space and help, they said "for sure!"

But we think it's significant.  First time in 26 years of this event that it's been broadcast to a wide audience.  We can potentially reach 388,000 people if everyone tunes in.

A few thousand of those will be in the parade and might be too busy to tune in and watch the coverage.  ;)

VHF already knows that the other big event at the same time will distract a fair number of that 388000 as well. I'll be at that one.

I missed the beginning of the parade so I wasn't able to witness the crowd reaction to the VicPD entry.

As for the shameless corporate shilling yes, the banks were out in force, falling all over themselves trying to demonstrate how progressive they are. And you know what? I'm ok with that because I think it's amazing that within my lifetime we've gone from banks legally discriminating against gays to today seeing gay bank employees and managers dancing on a parade float. Is the system perfect? Of course not but come on...

Overall, I thought it a rather tame, family-friendly affair. Huge lineups for food and the beer garden.

The only hint of potential trouble was a filthy drugged-out street person creeping on people. Of course, Victoria's Finest were alerted and kept an eye on him.

A great fun event, still necessary to have seeing "straight pride" neanderthals still exist.

From where I viewed the parade, the crowd was rather subdued as the police entry passed by (both Victoria & Saanich were represented). Despite the recent spate of anti-police vitriol from a few social justice groups, I didn't get any sense of this during today's parade. I recall, not so long ago, the cheers that police officers received when they appeared in uniform in the Vancouver Pride Parade. At that time (the early 2000's), it was still fairly risky for members of law enforcement to openly declare their sexual orientation. It's funny how times change and yesterday's heroes become today's villains through no particular fault of the individuals themselves.
