If you happen to be a fan of the Halloween film series, a NEW Halloween film is out next month just in time for Halloween. This time Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her original role and is sets out with one goal.......To KILL Michael Myers once and for all.  Trailer https://youtu.be/9y6tVJJkVvM  Bonus is that John Carpenter is back as an executive producer.

Saw the trailer the other night at Silver City. Looked ok although like most sequels I'm sure it won't live up to the hype. That said I'm sure we'll go since both Mrs ASE and me are fans of the original.

Speaking of which there were two glaring errors from the 1978 film which I presume won't be repeated here: although the Hallowe'en film(s) supposedly take place in Haddonfield Illinois, all the cars in the original film sported California license plates. Oops!

Also it's Hallowe'en after all and therefore its supposed to be late autumn - but in most scenes in the original film the leaves are still very green. This is because the flick was shot in California actually during the summer. John Carpenter imported leaves for every shot that you saw leaves blowing on the ground and blew them with giant fans; there are also a few shots where you can actually see palm trees, lol. Regardless its a classic in the genre for sure.

I am a HUGE John Carpenter Fan. To me he is not only the most Brilliant horror film writer/producer/director of modern time, but a brilliant musical composer who wrote and composed all of the theme music to his films that have been as successful as the films themselves.  As a matter of fact, after I posted this evening on "Halloween" I sat down and watched another John Carpenter classic "The Fog" on 1080p  Blue Ray. My goodness it's a great film! John Carpenter is just one of those guys that when watching one of his films, you know it's his right away. Oddly outside of John Carpenter films, I have no interest in horror films. With exception to Kubrick's "The Shining" of course....which isn't really a horror film, but rather a psychological thriller.  I am off now to watch the Bonus Features of "The Fog" on Blue Ray release.

i'm officially disappointed with Halloween this year.. my daughter's fave event has been cancelled this year... the Esquimalt rec pumpkin swim isn't happening this year it was always a highlight to the Halloween season (other then trick or treating ofcourse) swimming in the pool surrounded by full sized pumpkins and at the end of the swim taking 1 home to carve

Unfortunately I've seen many fun Halloween events come and go over the years in Victoria.  Thankfully Galey Farms Halloween is still happening with the ghost town, and two haunted houses.  The one  I really miss though was Pumpkin Art when it was held at Government House. That was the highlight of the year for me. When it moved into Oak Bay it was just not the same as being on the Government House property. Now Vickers isn't even in Victoria anymore. He split town after he lost his International Buskers Festival and Kite Festival.

i agree activities come and go.. was sad when enchanted halloween left heritage acres.. that was always a positive event family event that regularly sold out.. they tried to continue but it just wasn't the same.. (i think they even gave up the christmas festival they used to do too)

i do remember when the pumpkins were at government house and agree with you it's just not the same with them in oak bay...

we did gain the huge corn maze a few years ago at Pendray farms https://www.facebook...ndrayscornmaze/ .. it's a great way to spend an afternoon getting lost in corn (much better then galeys) last time it took us over 2hrs to find our way out

i was thinking the other day that i miss the ships light up event at the base (christmas event) where all the crews of the ships would go all out and compete and a bus would drive through the base and you would vote for your fave..

i do think we have lost more events than we have gained sadly.. with Vickers leaving we lost the busker festival (just the other day i heard two men talking about it when at the circus they said the quality of the festival now run through dvba is well down without vickers.. we lost the kite festival, the chalk art festival, uptown tried one year but i don't think it worked..

fingers crossed the pumpkin swim comes back next year..

The buskers at Uptown were part of the International Buskers Festival, and put the nail in the coffin for Vickers. The DVBA got so enraged with him for allowing part of the festival to go outside of the down town that they began the process of dismantling his festival until he was completely defeated. I remember being so angry with the DVBA at the time because of how childish the whole thing was.

uptown tried to take the chalk festival..they did it in the upper lot by whole foods (why there i have no idea it was kinda out of the way, you would think they'd close off the boulevard and host it on the street) it lasted 1 year and hasn't been done again

Does anyone know if this FEAR ON THE PIER is the same Halloween event that was there in the recent past?

I remember when there was in the underground parking section on the lower level of Tillicum Mall beside Fanny's Fabrics.  That one was a pretty big deal and it ran for 2 or 3 years.

I still enjoy  Carnevil out at Galey Farms.  It's a good bang for your buck cause you have the Full Haunted house, the halloween corn maze, the Crazy Train, and the Old Western town down up for Halloween with a smaller more kid friendly haunted house

I never leave the house now without carrying a pumpkin with me, just in case.

Are there any houses or areas that you know of that have big halloween displays? There should be a halloween map like the one for xmas lights.

The only one I know is the house on Landsdowne that does a big display for pretty well every holiday:
