So sorry! Simpleton self short-sightedly superimposed Short Street/Speed Street!

I meant the new condo around the corner from KFC across from Mayfair.

Oh saw that one as well they are down to landscping and finishing details. It looks awesome by the way. They just need to buy out the other side of the street now.

Visit my blog at: https://www.sidewalkingvictoria.com

It has a whole new look!

I was by there last week and it looked like they were about half way through building the top floor of the Oak Street Condos.

Interesting study of the effects and key findings of the Short Street project. Note: MS B!! Towards end some info on clash between new residential use and old retial use (in this case McDonald's) goes back to another discussion in Arts and Culture thread. Interesting.

Bus passes are hardly used. 49 passes in use, but they only average 15 one-way trips per month per pass. That's only 7.5 two-way trips per pass, per month.

And of course they recommend McDonalds be told to shut down their all-night drive-thru.

Activity has been spotted on the site!

Unfortunately, it's just some skaters building a ramp and binners sorting cans. :/

This site is now an amazing ad hoc BMX and skate park.

^Much more elaborate than it was last summer:

I wonder how long it will take Saanich to dismantle it citing liability concerns?

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot: screw you, Great Canadian Superstore.

Does anyone know the status of this development? Is it completely stalled? I heard it's been shelved, but have no facts to back up that rumour.

I remember when they built ML in 1963. Just another on my list of 'built and demolished in my lifetime'. Walking from there to the new Town and Country strip mall wasn't uncommon.

Last I heard Superstore was not doing so well financially and has put all expansion plans on hold. I would expect this lot to vacant for quite sometime.

Last I heard was that the new store was planned for early 2009. I have no idea why they are waiting so long.

I would go to superstore any day over Walmart though not a fan of either. I do go to the Real Canadian Wholesale in Esquimalt fairly often though.

I went to Superstore yesterday for the first time. It's huge. That automatic checkout freaked me out. I felt like my grandmother must have felt when she saw a microwave oven for the first time.

You didn't use the auto checkout, did you?

The auto checkout at Home Depot is awesome. It never works and a staff member always has to help out or reset the system.

Concur - takes about 3 times as long to use the auto-checkout as it does to go to a cashier, and helps to put a cashier out of work. Customer service at HD in Langford is abyssmal, one out by Uvic is much better.

The bank I go to has two ABMs and 5 tellers. A lot of the time I go in and people are lined up to use the ABM - I go over to one of the tellars and am out in half the time.
