Where else will you find that many white people in one place in Toronto? Maybe a green party rally. That's about it

I doubt Cherry ever fretted about the fact a lot of Irish will never wear a poppy. Follow me?

well he did say exactly this:

And I said, ‘You people,’” he added. “Irish, Scottish, anybody that’s newcomers to Canada, and they should wear a poppy to honour our dead from the past, whether they’re Scottish or Irish or English, or where they come from.”

His point was about newcomers to Canada not paying respect to our historical sacrifices. Is it Don Cherry's fault that said newcomer's are mostly non-white?

Outside of North America and parts of Europe does any other country homour remembrance day? On that basis it is understandable that newcomers don’t know about poppies. Other countries do a better job of educating newcomers on their history and culture. Perhaps that should be part of our integration process as well.

Australia and NZ do, poppies and all. I suspect it’s prevalent throughout the Commonwealth.

While coping with a feeling of betrayal, Cherry said he has been uplifted by the support from friends and fans across the country and in the United States.

It is true. I have also received hundreds up hundreds of emails of support — many saying they will be at a planned protest at Sportsnet’s studios on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Even former Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion says she will be there and has also signed a petition which already has more than 103,000 signatures demanding that Don be reinstated.

Here is the view from a labour lawyer, as reported by Global News (https://globalnews.c...ant-impact/amp/

- Howard Levitt, a Toronto-based employment and labour lawyer, disagrees. Attacking immigrants, he said, is inherently attacking people based on the national origin — something larger organizations, like Rogers, openly prohibit in their ethical code of conduct.

“Just like gender or race, national origin is a prohibited ground that you can’t discriminate based on,” he said.

“A lot of Rogers’ customers are immigrants, minorities, people from different countries and/or even maintain ancestry from different countries, because we all are to some extent.”

Mr. Levitt also authored this article in the Financial Post:

and he said this:

“He may be politically incorrect, and may not have been as careful as he should have in his remarks, but his offence does not warrant firing.”

anyway he was not "discriminating against" anyone.  he was making fair commentary.

how about this guy quoted in the article.  should he lose his job now?  (he's also way off with his "boomer" attack cherry was born at least a decade before boomers)

Ryan Packman, 26, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 2008 to 2011, described Cherry as an “intolerable baby boomer with a habit of saying things he shouldn’t,” but thought Cherry brought up an interesting point when it came to showing respect for the military’s contributions to Canadian society.

Over the years, Packman said he’d noticed a visible decrease in people wearing poppies on Remembrance Day, which he views as disrespectful.

“There’s a reason people want to move here,” said Packman, who resides in Montreal. “It would be nice to show a little bit of visible appreciation to the people that did give their lives or watched to watch their friends give their lives.

“If it weren’t for the troops that served, then our country would be very different than it is today.”

I used to like Tucker 20 years ago on CNN in his bow tie days. Now his show is The White Power Hour. To save you clicking the link, Cherry says he should have said "everybody" instead of "those people" because people are sensitive to which Tucker replied, they're not sensitive, "they're fascists with no real feelings", to which Cherry nods along.

It makes me feels sick and that's not a fake feeling.

It's sick that Remembrance Day, the most solemn day on our calendar, is fodder for Carlson, Ben Shapiro the rest of the Julius Streicher fanboy club to whine about how they can't complain about immigrants like they could in the old days.
