>>>I polled my family and everyone thought 9 was too tall<<<
And why does your family think nine floors are to tall ???
I know Pam has a valid reason ... to many floors block her view when she is driving around ... I bet your family has similar valid reasons ... groan!

They have lots of reasons, and I'm not interested in listing them for someone hiding behind a pseudonym to pick apart. They all love this city very much and believe what they believe deeply. I don't always share the same views but I respect their opinions.
It will certainly be interesting when this goes to council as we will hear lots of points from both sides.

Who the hell cares how tall anything is out there, it's strip malls and car dealerships. Will an 11 story building loom over the human-scale walmart? Will the massing disrespect and clash with the historic strip malls? Who cares if its 9 or 11 or 30. There's nothing there to be "disrespected" or "loomed over" or what ever feelings people who are terrified by height put into words.

Speaking for myself, I'd love to read a rational explanation put forth as to why an 11 or 9 (or less) or whatever arbitrary height limit is required at this site.

Fretting over an 11-storey building at Uptown is honestly the absolute least of our worries.
Anyways, it's a good fit. Certainly well short of the 650 units Morguard had initially planned for but some is better than nothing.

I moved to the Uptown area to get away from Oak Bay-sized apartment buildings.

Uptown's great. I'm just not sure people want it capped off with a building more than twice it's height. It's a fair question.
It may be a fair question but it is still odd reasoning, especially when 2, 36-storey residential towers were originally proposed for this site.

11 stories is fine. It could handle more, but the idea of having building with multiple floors seems to stun Saanich residents into a state of shock. I think it's a reasonable implementation and not overwhelming in mass.

7 or 8. 7 if I had to bet.
any other photos or site plans?
Sadly I am in there all too often visiting my mother; you are correct, the Campus of Care is 7 floors.
I see one of the more strident of the anti-height brigade has come out in the form of a letter to the T-C, some rambling and utterly incoherent diatribe that this proposal has something to do with the UN Agenda 21 "plot". Poor old Greater Victoria, even an incredibly modest 11-storey proposal - which wouldn't raise an eyebrow anywhere in the country beyond East Saanich - can't see the light of day without howls of protest.

i dunno what a foor is, but if it's shorter than 8 feet, i think 11 isn't enough.

The number of units isn't bad but it just seems like an odd massing to me (judging from a single image, I should say). It just looks a bit too bulky and institutional, whereas I was expecting something more Hudson Walk-ish for some reason.
As long as it doesn't have a big blank face on one side it should be fine. Uptown's formula seems to be all about giving Victorians not quite what they expected -- maybe not even what they wanted -- but then eventually gaining broad acceptance despite the initial complaints.
