Any thoughts on what might go up when this parking lot is sold?

Which lot? I can only see an aerial view.  :(

A pretty sharp proposal for the lot beside View Towers was nixed a few years back. I make no secret of my wish to see View Towers gone. Build some less hulking new rental apartment buildings on the Vancouver/View corner and on the Fort/Quadra corner, put a killer public square/mini-park on the parking lot, and put two slim and nicely separated condo towers where View Towers used to be.

(The reason I can't let this idea go is because the potential of all of the adjacent properties is limited by the hulking presence of View Towers. If View Towers is no longer there then the possibilities open up.)

Hmmm, when I click on the link I see a parking lot right in the centre of the aerial view.

That is what I was thinking ... who wants to put up anything decent next to that eye sore.

It was built in the early 70's and it will never be anything more that the hulk that it is now.

It's unsafe and outdated, pull it down.

People have tried. It's not so much whether you'd want to try, it's whether it's even feasible. Anything particularly large would be awkward. Anything extremely tall and slim would never be allowed.

Here's the thread for the old proposal. I'm going to move this discussion into the general discussion thread soon, just as an FYI so everyone knows where it has disappeared to.

Me too. I suppose I was wanting to see something from street view.

Woah...

Who was the developer? Are they still the current owner?

It seems like it has been for sale forever.

^I didn't like that version. The earlier version with circular windows in the townhomes was better. The architect told me that was expensive and a bit extreme but I strongly disagreed.

I can't remember the developer but I doubt they ever owned it--I assume it was like a lot of projects in that the sale of the property was dependent on City Hall approval.

One problem with this lot is that there is a covenant with the auction house next door--there must access to a driveway running along the View Towers property line to provide truck access to the back of Lunds.

For a building to fit in next to view towers it just needs to be significantly taller

That's what the DRA proposed at the time, a spectacular building that would diminish View Tower and make it no longer the most dominant building on the lot.

I thought someone once said this lot had been held by a family for many, many years.

Why do you think it is unsafe?

Has the sprinkler system been installed?

Exactly what is needed. Stop fretting about View Towers and make it less relevant by building better around it.

Methinks this is yet another reason why it would be ideal to deal with several of the properties on that block in a unified way. For example, you could have an access lane running down the middle of the block from Quadra that serves the back side of every building. Just surface it and light it like a pedestrian path.

Does the company still hold a grudge against Victoria after 50 years?

The blue clad exterior staircase is actually a big improvement.
